But are you brave enough for this restoration!! - http://www.copart.co.uk/uk/Lot/31249416/Photos?SearchId=23408106
Worth buying just for the number plate.
Thought car had to be mot'd to transfer a plate or has that rule changed?
I believe you can remove the plate if you're scrapping a car.
Ah, so the difference here is that, being a Mercedes, you can get all the replacement parts! Yes, they actively support ALL their cars. The guys at Emblem are restoring something old and Merc-tasty and Miles was telling me how easy it is to get any component they need.
I think you can apply to keep it, if you are the registered keeper, if and when a car is written off, but it needs to be registered and motd prior to it. The only way to get that number, even then their is no guarantee, is to restore it.
I guess they keep the old ones that are out of circulation and sell on.
I think you'll actually find that once they've gone out of circulation, that's it.
I can confirm this is untrue. My mother had a car written off, and the DVLA then sold the registration on to someone else before processing my parents' application to retain it. It's now on someone else's car, the DVLA agree that the rights to it are with my mother but that they can't take it off someone else's car. They admit they resold it before they should have done.
