Beautiful!
I followed one for around 30miles along the M4 a while back, it looked and sounded superb.

599’s are epic. We’ve sold a fair few. Expect to spend a few quid on ball joints regularly, they are the same as used in 369/430 f cars. The hill engineering replacements last longer than the crappy overpriced Ferrari ones!!
Common issues are oil leaks from the front cover (that’s £1500 to sort out) knock sensor wiring melting (a full compliment of replacements will see you into £1200) and tpms faults (quel suprise!) it’s engine is pretty much the same as the Enzo unit, very strong indeed but lack of correct oil additive at service time results in noisy lifters. The dash display can suffer with pixelated and flickering screens which can empty your wallet to the tune of £3k. Service wise, an annual is around £650 with the biggie with all the bells and whistles weighing in at around £1800. I’ve got a lovely HGTE in here that I’m trying to sell one of my kidneys to buy! ;)

You forgot to mention front shox which go every 20 thousand miles. A three grand fix.

Mine is a 599 HGTE, one of only 200 I believe. What makes it rarer is that the 599 HGTE kit was fitted at the factory, not at a dealership.

Yes those are a bit pricey! ;) love the HGTE variant. Congrats, you have a mighty fine and VERY rare car there!!! We have a HGTE that needs the all four shocks doing. Plus the joints. And front discs. Ouch!

That's awesome!
Can you say anything more about it? I have been looking at them and the Vanquish after moving on from the Cali recently.
Can you give any tips re: negotiating or things to look out for?
Gorgeous looking and sounding car.

Everything is known. Sounds stupid, but they are pretty straight forward cars. Failures all documented and the fixes also described in various forums.

Don’t believe the BS that aluminium bodies are rot free. They have a weakness around those gorgeous rear pillars - but obvious to see. Check for powder.

Engines are bullet proof, but require regular fluid changes. Brake disks will need changing eventually and all in the UK will be Carbon Ceramic. 12k a set, but a chap in Germany can reline them for about 4k.

Clutches - much in line with ten GS/GT in terms of longevity and cost to change. Reckon on 3-4k.

Forget the service schedule, have an annual and add a stamp. Given they all do a maximum of 3k per year the fluids need changing anyway.

Dealer service so much better than Maserati - sad to say Ferrari really is premium.

Sat Nav is pants and the Becker 6112 is designed by Fred Dibner: steam powered and industrial.

Performance is to die for. I have driven some quick stuff, but this is a different league and still cossets you. Engine is so balanced, power is linear and the chassis is massively transparent.

It may cost me a bit more than the GT MC Shift to run, but the depreciation will be glacial and all I can say is that 612bhp should never be so accessible.

I have never been a speculator but if the preceding model (559/575) is now clocking £120k-£175k) and the successor is around £230k average, then 100k-130k for a GTB feels cheap (not meant to be crass, but all relative)

Pre 2009 cars can have the HGTE kit fitted retrospectively by the dealer. Mine is a GTB and will stay that way. The ride is sublime in wet weather mode and I can live with the slower beat change.

Finally, get the dealer to force the GFV up on the finance deal. I went with Ferrari Finance and I was offered 45% after 4 years and got it to 50%. Made a difference to the monthlies of £100 per month.

Thanks - this is really helpful, and everything you say makes sense. Dare I say, it could be one where man maths actually makes sense.
The dealers have been awesome when it comes to finance deals on most of the cars, but I was suprised with the GFV they offered first up on the 599. I managed to get a cali T to change the monthlies by over 400 with some gentle persuasion - so surely the 599 should have at least 60% GFV after 3 years (in real terms it should be close to 110% if things go as they are.)

Is anyone close to Dick Lovetts Swindon over the next couple of weekends and fancies a look at some?

Yes I would love to see the Grigio one they have in at the moment. 50% GFV!!!! I could make that work with a sizeable deposit!!!

Phil - some of the figures I have been getting have been jaw dropping.
You could easily manage it. With a good price for your GTS plus a few pennies you are looking at crazy good monthlies.
Could you make it down one weekend? Would be great to finally meet and I am sure we could keep them busy for a couple of hours!
Can I ask what maybe a silly question - would most go for a 599 over a 458. Is it as simple as V12 vs V8?

No 458 is better for me, just much more modern and sportier. They ain't cheap though. Iain I'm free when we you are!

Great - my wife has been promising me a 'day off' for a while. Could this Saturday work for you - I could promise to give them a god day out on Sunday in recompense.
Could you pm me your mobile and we could try and coordinate?

The 458 is very different to the 599 and offers a completely different driving experience. A light, mid engined out-and-out sportscar, compared with a large, front engined GT car. They were designed with different purchasers and different purposes in mind. Both are fantastic though.

The 458 leaves you feeling completely ****** after a drive, it's nimble , turns in so quick and is light, I've never drive a 599 but as Ewan says it is a front engined GT so not a fair comparison. The tech and gearbox in the 458 are light years ahead .

Iain - the mysterious Eddie on here knows a think or two about Astons as well. Well, his business partner does. Worth a chat.
