Know what your saying. I have X-pipe with the valves removed for the rear boxes which give me the pop's and crack's (not like Sommi's car) but is still comfortable at cruising speeds.

Can you explain "valves removed" - where are the valves?
Thanks

The valves are inside the box. They work off exhaust pressure so open when you rev the engine. They operate on a spring with a flap and after lots of heat circles the spring looses its tension then would rattle at idle. I remove the rear boxes, cut the top out then took them to an exhaust shop where they cut them out with a hot touch then re-welded the top back. You could just weld open the flap but there was still a disruption in the air flow so I removed them altogether. Came across the idea/fix on the Maserati life forum

Mine is the DS. Think rear boxes are all the same...apart from the tip colours which are black on the first gen GTS. The only QP with external valves I no of are the GTS model 09 onwards
