Air con compressors - QPV

My compressor has been diagnosed as having a faulty clutch and is off to the chaps at Autoshield tomorrow morning.

Has anyone had any success with an equivalent part alternative to the Maserati part? I saw a thread previously where a couple of suppliers had something listed for a QPV, but don't know if anyone has actually had success with fitting one?

They're not rocket science compared to other cars, just a rocket ship price tag !

Cheers

If it is the same as the 4200 is is a regular pump used in many cars. I have not got around to changing mine yet but I have got as far as compairing at my local helpful motor factors MOTEX and a comparable unit could be as cheap as £160 + VAT which is many times cheaper than stock.

Get it de-gassed and taken off, collect it and go see a good motor factors, let us know what you discover.

Spoke to Marios - apparently there's a number of different version per year, dependant on the chassis number. Whilst you can try and source an alternative, you could well end up with lots of wasted time and effort. Maserati apparently have a licence on the compressors and don't like to make it easy for normal bods to source cheaper parts.

I had mine seize up and die last year in the Gransport. One of the chaps on the Australian forum gave me a link to a Hungarian ? supplier who specialises in compressors. They offered reconditioned units as well as new models. The consensus from experts was don't go recond. So I ordered the new unit for about $850.00 as I recall, including delivery to Australia. My model had a Sanden model or a AC Delco. They had me check the model number on the back which is a ***** to get to. Turns out mine was AC Delco which of course was the more expensive of the two. Shipment arrived amazingly quickly, fitted by local guys, but was a big job as headers had to come off to get it in. Air cond works great.
When I get a chance I'll drag out the invoice and post the contact details. Bit busy at the moment, putting one of my sons on a flight to Texas tomorrow.

The aircon pump on my GS has also given up the ghost - fortunately the car is with Marios for a service and had a warranty which expired at the end of last year. Marios argued for a new replacement pump, but the warranty company wrangled a bit and insisted that the pump be sent to their reconditioners. No great surprise to learn that the pump couldn't be reconditioned and so they've agreed a new pump can be fitted. Very glad of the warranty as that will save me a bill of well over £1k for the pump replacement!

I think most of ours are Denso and do not have a recon kit, hence the ludicrous overprice controlled by Maserati. They should be about £400, but over a grand is a joke..!!

Not sure of my model, but Marios mentioned MAFs episode. Hopefully mine is covered by the RAC Garage Parts and Labour policy I took out last year. Only covers £750 parts & £750 labour, but for a relatively "inexpensive" part like this it's pretty good value at £140.

I've usually gone down the self funding route, some times you win, some times you don't, but in this case, I hope to be a winner.

Did you see my yellow beauty there? I haven't seen her for over a month!

Afraid not - had the luxury of having it collected from my house and delivered to Autoshield on a low loader.

Cheers RAC !

I had a chat with a trade contact last week about this very thing. His company rebuilds automotive compressors and they assess faulty parts for warranty companies. He told me there is a known fault with the front bearing spinning in the casing wrecking the casting, but some are salvageable. www.compressortech.co.uk is worth a look for those with issues.

Interesting. My GTS had the compressor replaced under warranty last month because the bearing had failed - still working but noisy and had a wobble

Well - Super Mario(s) to the rescue ! RAC disputed the claim, but following an hour of Marios setting them right they agreed to authorise it :)

Car collected this afternoon and driving great, so all well.

Thanks again Marios - top work !

That's a realistic price compared to the £1,400 Maserati want in the UK, which is ludicrous..!!

That site currently shows OEM as unavailable, as they all do, but offers a remanufactured unit using used parts for under Euro's 400, at least that will get you on the road and working..!!
