Seen some pics of facebook, it's being compared to the 156, if it is then I might actually consider getting a new car :)

Ok, the Maser is safe then, ha ha.

Looks more like a 4C type of nose, which is no bad thing.

According to this - http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-shots/alfa-romeo/alfa-romeo-giulia-2015-first-of-nine-new-alfas/

'Alfa Romeo goes RWD again

The news will come as a godsend to Alfisti, a generation brought up on rear-wheel drive Alfas. The platform is based on the RWD matrix of the Ghibli, but mated to smaller-capacity engines.

The four-cylinder motors are understood to be a 1.4 turbo (110 or 180bhp) and a 1.8 available with 200 or 330bhp.

But to compete in the executive heartland, Alfa must offer multi-cylinder engines too. CAR understands a Maser-twinned petrol V6 will be offered in 2.5 and 3.0 capacities, developing up to 510bhp in later, more sporting iterations rolled out over the lifecycle of the car.'

Well, I've pretty familiar with both those 4 pot engines; I have the 1.4 turbo in my Abarth and the 1.8 turbo in my 4C.

I imagine these units would be horribly laggy and out of place in a reasonably heavy saloon/coupe. Also, neither is proven in a front engine RWD configuration, and presumably there will be some power loss through a transverse transaxle.

A car like this needs the Ghibli V6, which can be tuned to 400 BHP (500 sounds too ambitious).

But would an Alfa be allowed to take from Ferrari and Maserati R&D? I only see it happening if the price reflects the DNA.

No idea tbh. Seams to be a similar size as a 156, which for a saloon is small, ao maybe the engines would work? Suppose it also depends on how light it is, just hope Alfa don't repeat the mistake with the Brera and 159. Great lookers but too heavy ;)

Ferrari are now a separate company, but suppose if they are going to continue to be engine supplier they will have some say on performance still.

It can only be, V engine/RWD and agree, it will be the Ghibli setup.

if the Ghibli can be had for £45k then the Alfa will be up to £35k, sounds good value and you know it will be wrapped in the sexiest body around.

Very interesting.

If Alfa can get this V6 turbo into a car that sells for 35K then we could have some fun on our hands. I will be straight into the tuners and asking for 450 brake.

"The 24th of June will be a milestone so vital in Alfa’s history that only a few of these moments have occurred in the brand’s 105-year existence."

Looking forward to Wednesday, then.

I'm a bit worried about this.

If it's a 4 pot engine, I think the car will be lacking in character.

It it's the V6, I think it will be great but will surely be priced in the 35-40K territory, which is a fierce battleground.

I assume the R&D costs on this car aren't high, and its essentially a coupe on the Ghibli platform? (Not read the articles in depth, sorry.)
