Lovely. Not seen one like that before. Similar in style to the trench watches of that era but most of those were round.

I really like that Dave. The 20s and 30s have an elegant style that has not been bettered for me.

I have a few watches too. I guess many car guys are also watch guys. Current favourite is my Panerai which is a PAM212 1950 Flyback. I also cherish my Omega Seamaster Chrono and wear it most days. I have a mid-size Seamaster with titanium that never sees the light of day and a lovely solid 24ct Gerard Perregaux from the early 1960s which is totally out of fashion and only worn at black tie events. The rest are not so valuable - A Maurice Lacroix Reveille, a TW Steel Dario Franchitti and a Porsche 911 Turbo Chrono which was an impulse purchase when I visited Porsche Centrum in Stuttgart.

Zagatoes, if you are thinking of a birth year watch for a special Birthday, eg 40, start looking a year or so before as good ones start to become scarce as the big milestones approach and prices go up significantly. Mine wouldn't be a collectors dream as it has a newer service dial and hands, but is a 1964 case, movement and plexiglass. But I like the combination of the vintage watch with a dial and hands that lights up like a new one.

40 I wish, I would settle for 50 - no not a big anniversary year so hopefully prices won't be too silly
