Guys, not many Maseratis entered this year, so a few more would be nice to have. If you were thinking of entering - please do so ASAP because the mailing list will have to be finalized soon. This year the featured marques will be Lamborghini and Moto Morini. Website www.biamf.co.uk

I'm surprised Paul does the weekend clash as always a good turnout from here normally.

Currently we have 8 Maseratis entered - in 2014 it was 30 + a few gate crashers (will not be allowed again!) and in 2013 we had 16. A few more this year would be nice. There is not a lot of time left, so please apply ASAP.

I've always fancied going to this, but have been put off by stories of damage to cars by the public. I may come as a spectator, but won't be displaying any cars.

I think that's why a few regulars are stayint away this time Mark...A few got scratches on their pride and joy last year from the public..Shame as it is a great event.

In 2014 is was 30+ simply because it was the Centenary and featured Marque so that explains the high numbers.

I reckon 10 would be a good show really but mine had slights scratches to the front bumper from last year as it was on the main street and the footfall on there was much higher than on the other roads.

Great time as well...and my sixth time; however...

As the event is now sooo popular I personally find it a little too crowded with cars and people. The combination makes for a rathe fraught day for both.

Although it is great to see so many cars it may be time to limit it to one or two of each model to allow ease of access and an opportunity to spread the cars out a little more so you can see them better esp the rarer cars.

But please keep it going.

Thanks Peter. Well, if we were to attempt restricting it to one or two of each model there would be very few Maseratis there! About four this year I would think. Yes, it does get crowded at peak times but refusing an application just because there was one of the models already entered would seriously pee off many people. A lot of the entrants regard the Festival as the event to start the year with. To deny them a place on your proposed basis would appear a little churlish (to them) I think. To spread the cars out is not normally possible as the capacity is about 200 and we achieve that almost every year. This year we were about 50 cars down and for this reason St Nicholas Street was barely used for display purposes. Owners do not particularly like being in ST Nicholas Street, regarding it as a back water. If there were space to spare on Corn Street, St Stephens Street or Small Street and there were cars around the back in St Nicholas Street; you can bet your boots that there would be migration of cars out of St Nicholas Street. Indeed I have seen it happen even when we were at capacity - a Fiat Coupe owner objected to being 'around the back' and took it upon himself to relocate to Corn Street amongst the Ferraris. On top of that, next year we will have to pay for EVERYTHING (the council paid for the PA and vehicle lifts this year) and we will rely on a fairly full entry list in order just to break even. Next year the entry fee will inevitably rise but we will keep it as low as reasonably possible consistent with having a good chance of not making a financial loss.
As for being about 50 cars down this year - anyone got any ideas? It could be that we announced the date somewhat later than in previous years (for reasons largely beyond our control) and maybe some of the advance publicity went out late. Maybe the increase of the entry fee put some people off or maybe some people have become bored with it?

I can of course only offer my opinion and my views will not be shared by all. Keep up the stirling work.

Why do I think numbers were down?...well;

He with the red trousers is making the city very Anti Car and that vew is shared by an increasing number of non car fans who attempted to traverse the pavements and roads around the event whilst expressing their disgust at the flash cars blocking their route - that attitude kept a nuber of SMF members away this year.

Timing around school holidays may result in people being away

As you pointed out the side streets are not desirable and there is limited space for the featured mark to be shown.

Most of our forum have been for years and it is the same each year...maybe needs something new to keep it fresh.

Hopefully some other comments and ideas will come from others so my words can be put into contex.

Best of luck with 2016.

I'd love to go to this event and support it by showing my car. Unfortunately that's never going to happen whilst members of the public are allowed to roam around and cause damage to the cars without recourse. Given previous episodes where members have reported scratching to their cars by careless (or worse) spectators, I believe that is why numbers are down.
