Hey guys,
I started the GTS on Sunday after probably a month in the garage. It’s on a CTEK, so started just fine and roared to life, I let it idle for a minute and then I saw smoke coming from under the bonnet, pretty much from the vent under the offside wiper. I immediately killed the engine, found the fire extinguisher and gingerly (and slowly) opened the bonnet fearing the worst. There was no fire, and the smoke was now minimal, but had an unmistakable stench of burning plastic. I left it for an hour or so to cool down, and then removed the engine cover in that area to inspect it, and couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. I considered whether it was a stupid idea, but eventually made the decision to try and start it again (!) and I was at the ready, but nothing out of the ordinary happened, everything started as normal. There was the smell of electrical smoke in the cabin, but I took it out for a drive and it behaved as usual, and I eventually gave it a bit of a blast and it was absolutely fine. I do have what appears to be an ABS issue, (lights on the dash) but that started last month. I’ll probably put that in a new thread as I’m really hoping it was caused by a low battery from a few short trips last month, but need to know how to reset it to see if it comes back. Aside from that, I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary at all.
Anyway, main questions are:
Anyone know what electrics are in this area?
What this could have been from?
Should I worry about it!?
Thanks in advance!
