An indie inspection will confirm if it is a good one, i would not tend to buy a high mileage one, especially red as they could have been a driving experience car, ( serviced a few of those at the specialist and they were a right dog). What puts people off is the cambelts on a 355 are around £800 (the engine has to be removed on a 355) yet if the 18K service needs doing as well, you will be getting a bill of sum around £1400. A yearly/annual service is around £600. Also, the valves on the 355 have to be adjusted now and again, this is around £400 and a new clutch is £1100 fitted. The 355 is a very rewarding car but i would budget around £800 to keep one in tip top condition for the year.
Yeah it is not too bad for a supercar, like i mentioned, the big expense is the cambelt+18k service. What would a 3200 or GS cost per year not including the clutch??
Sorry chaps I still stand by my original take on this. There is no such thing as a cheap supercar and woe be the man who thinks there is. The Ferrari348 is cheap for a good reason. They are unloved and one of the few mistakes Ferrari made along with Mondial and 400 GT.
I love the 365/400/412!! Pure 70s V12 class, like nothing else Ferrari have made. Would love a manual one on carbs at some point, they were a £7k car, now more like £20-£30kk for a good one
the 348 looks to much like a baby tess and a stop gap to the awesome 355... it also just dosen't seem like a ferrari at the back, its the round lights that is a signature of this brand
oh the other down side to the 348 is the gearbox is reversed - 1st is down, second is up, third is down and so on - maybe after a while you will get used to it but for me it would be the 355 and of couse the F1 which has a few mods over the GTS, or 328 which maybe older but its the magium car (I know its not, it was a 308)
A lot of the Ferrari's from the 70's/ 80's/early 90's had a "dog leg" first gear, these models include, 308, 308 GT4, 328, 348, Testarossa, 512 TR, 512M, 400 models, Mondial, F40, 288 GTO etc....
