I'm trying to reserve judgement until my friend takes delivery of his (in about 2 weeks). But it doesn't look like a £60k car to me, inside or out. And there's no getting away from the fact that the depreciation is going to be historic.

Have you driven the bread and butter model yet Dem....Thinking of popping over to Alfa in Swindon to day to see.

I have Andy, the 180 BHP version......comparing it to my BMW (which is the class leader) theres not a lot in it....

The Alfa has 1 bhp more and the same 0-60 times along with similar mpg the only noticeable difference was the wind noise, the BMW is miles ahead......overall quality of course the Alfa is 2nd to the BM but miles ahead from their previous models.....

A very good rival to the leader.....the auto box is also on par with my current 8 speed so cant really tear them apart

Seeing an Alfa badge on the steering wheel is what the difference is to me

Alfa find it impossible to make a car with out the sound of two hair dryers either side of your head when driving above 60 mph

The bonus is we can get 9.5% discount and 3 years free servicing as we sell Fiat Industrial products at work, makes it more compelling for me. Still a stretch though, and the discounts on some of the rivals are huge. It's also hard to argue against an AMG V8, can't discount that.

I woke up this morning wishing there to be an alfa on the driveway, having now driven it, it does that sort of thing to you, the emotional lets have one at all costs!

Is the 4C holding its value or are they just not selling?

I have no idea. I spoke to Pat at the Xmas bash and he said he recons he will get late 30's for his car if he tried to sell it now.

For me and others I know who cancelled or did not purchase the 4C, the 4 pot turbo engine at the price it was being sold at was the main reason.

It has to be the V6 in my eyes so the Maserati variant that we will see in two years will address this. Its about the only positive I can pull from the Maserati range at the moment.

Maserati will hopefully have something out by then to compete!
It looks similar ish to an M4 - but it's not a boring BMW and it's Italian and faster.

Stick a new nose on the proposed Giulia Coupe (shudder) maybe:

http://www.autonews.com/article/201...will-share-platforms-with-maserati-dodge-jeep

They need something emotional and that can differentiate from Alfa.

Article quote: "Marchionne said the Giorgio platform was designed to underpin "the whole Maserati development beyond 2018"

There are around 50 4cs for sale. Chap I know has an Alfa franchise and when I mentioned the 4c he suggested I may want to look elsewhere. He was not enamoured with it - as Matt suggested his major gripe was the power unit.

I am guessing apart from the complete Giorgio platform based product line(s) the Modena facility needs to have a new model based on the 4c to keep running.

I put a deposit down in 2011 when it was just a flimsy rumour it might get built.
I cancelled because firstly if it was being built it was going to be a limited run similar to 8C and secondly price for the same engine I had in the Cloverleaf. Again when proposed figures of mid 30's pricewise was suggested. I wanted ideally a convertible but was told it would not happen. By time it was price was heading North of £60k and I just thought of all the options I could buy at that money. Having been shafted on residuals in a £30K Cloverleaf I didn't want to think what could happen on something twice the price. I really hope they do hold up though.

Well. Things move quickly sometimes. Looks like I will be ordering one on Monday.

I have two cars to choose from that already have a build slot.

One is Competizione Red and one is Volcano Black.

https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/alfa-romeo-giulia-colours-guide-0401

A bit torn on which to choose, the red one is £1000 more, but also would be registered before the tax goes up on 1st April, so would save £800 in tax over 4 years.

Red is THE colour and a £1750 option, but Black would also look very menacing and perhaps be a bit different.

Another factor is that the Black one is from my local dealer, I prefer to buy local, worried about what happens if something goes wrong. Other dealer is in the west country.....

Maybe it has to be comp red, but black has an allure to it!!

Great engineered car but it's no secret I am not a fan of the styling.

If it were me I would go black with red calipers and a red, tan or tobacco interior, probably red would swing it.

The black for me blends the plastic grills on the nose which I feel is a good thing.

Other colour would be white exterior with red leather. I don't like the reds, silver or blues I am afraid. Grey would be ok with tan.

Great choice of car though.

The Black car has yellow calipers and the red one has the standard black ones. Both have black interiors, black one might have some silver inserts too, waiting to hear back.

The carbon bits also blend in more whit black, which could be a good or bad thing... The front splitter is "active" and moves, looks ffing expensive if you catch it!

My other half said she has never seen me so excited!!!

As above...Red.....The black would be a bit dull on this Alfa for me.

Vesuvio grey or the red. Think they have to have red Calipers though. Surely you want to choose your ideal specs in entirety if you are going new. Lots of dealers are selling them with build slots for march / April delivery.
I think it's a lovely looking car. My only worry as Ewan said- is depreciation. If it pans out how everyone thinks- I can't
Imagine getting any other sensible car in 2018- has to be one of
Those

I just tried one today. I like it. Seems well put together the engine is responsive and the sound is pretty good.

Shame you only get the valves open in full race mode which means everything is turned off!

There are two reds. I would be choosing the red option at £1750 more and red calipers at £250, plus carbon steering wheel at £250 and comfortpack at £850.

Total around £64k.

Sounds bang on.
Cheeky how they charge so much for paint..
Would you feel comfortable swapping your lovely black GTs for it though... would you miss the sound and he knowledge that
When everyone looks they appreciate it- whereas with the Alfa only a v small percentage of people will know
What's under the bonnet ..

Just been over local Alfa Romeo dealer today and very impressed with the Giuila. Looking for a new daily driver and the Giulia Veloce looks like it will fit the bill spot on. Got a test drive booked for 3 weeks when it lands. 280bhp petrol coming in at about £44k with options Inc 3 years servicing. As a daily driver I can't justify the QV at mid £60k.
