Just want to say thanks to everyone who went, especially Andy for organising it and inviting us. it was a really good day and me and ross had a great time. Think i got my new car at just the right time to be able to test it out properly but i think i might be using the warranty a bit sooner than i thought, the 'wobble' i noticed on the way down seems to have got worse and the brakes are nowhere near as good as they were on thursday, the pedal goes pretty much to the floor before it does anything now. Think the front left tyre will probably need changing soon aswell but its all part of the fun :D Thanks for the ride in your M3 aswell Andy, it was good to go round with someone who knew what they were doing and your advice with the corners made it even better when i went out in my own car again afterwards. Hopefully some of our video is worth watching from the camera we borrowed off a mate for the day aswell. The only annoying thing was the hazard lights flashing on the Giulietta when you brake hard. its supposed to be a safety feature for the road but it was annoying on the track :ohh:

Hope your car is back on the road again soon chris and its nothing too serious

Thanks again everyone,

Larne

Pleaseure to meet our Larne...Glad you had a good time...........

Sounds like it was a heavy day on mechanics for many but a great day too. I hope you all get your fixes without too much pain...

Hope your car is an easy fix chris, my audi lost reverese, 1st 3rd and fifth gear on the drive back. Could not be bothered with the aa. Had a quick look under and nothing loose so likely gear fork selector in box gone (common it appears and box out).
Thanks again to andy for organising

Ouch!

I don't know if you were still around at the time, but you weren't the only one swapping wheels, an Alfa went home on the space-saver after his front tyres got down to the steel belt due to excessive camber...he was spotted with sparks flying from his tyres at one point by Phil's son's mate.

My tyres seemed to hold up well enough this time, but it was dark by the time I had a good look, so the front left may need changing again.

Hope it all turns out well with the gearbox, and please do remember to leave the play school at home next track day
Ha!

Cheers for organising another great day Andy. Twas a good day out, took it nice and easy for most of the time until I found myself out with a bunch of lotus' and the competitive streak came out...oops. Still at least I didnt have to tiptoe home on shredded tyres unlike last time. I really enjoyed it first thing - I'd almost forgotten how much fun it is driving on a wet track.

Really sorry about your car Chris. I hope it's just the relay, it's a technology that doesnt take to vibration and shock to well so wouldnt surprise me if it's that. Fingers crossed for you!

What a day! Great company and good fun. Thanks again Andy for your efforts organising it.

Gutted to see you having trouble Chris, glad you have good back up cover and hope it's an easy fix.

Amazed at how late you were braking, I thought I was leaving things late until you told me you were out braking me and I was braking early - sorry for holding you up! :)

Your grub sounds great!

Me too, Miles. Thanks for all the good wishes everyone. It was a great day, I got to try out my new line through the bus stop, was accused of being the last of the late brakers and learned a lot just following others round, especially Grinzz. All round, a good day even with all this hassle.

Now sat with a glass of house red waiting for a steak kebab at Madeira in Cardiff.

Chris,
It may be g/box oil that has reduced from heat of the driving, let's hope it's a simple as that..!!
Cheers

The food was perfect for what I needed.

Good to catch up with you again, hope we can do it all more often...just not sure I can afford the repair bills / tyres

The more I think about it the more curious I think it is. You can do a lap of Llandow with six gear changes, it's not massively ******* the gears or on the clutch. I'll wait 'til Monday and the diag. by Autoshield.

6 gear changes..? Start in 1st, into second, stay in second and rev the balls off it for a few laps then into the pits. Isn't that how you're supposed to do it ?!

Most of it not all of the SM photos are on the photo thread...I took Nick and Sues picks from face book and AO on posted on the thread.

Let me know how fuel conomy is....company car hunting soon

Motorway at pretty constant 80mph was 46mpg.

From the M4 round the '406 to Hampstead was 65!!! But I did put it in Eco mode for that bit of the journey which holds on to powering by battery longer and kicks in the engine later. Also took it nice & gentle to see what I could get.

As for the drive, I've never felt less connected to a car - it seems to be in control, and you're really just making suggestions as to what should happen. It did do what I wanted each time, but for some reason I felt like I was the director, but it was the cameraman. With the CC, I always feel like it'll only ever ignore me if I'm being stooopid, but otherwise I feel in control.

Also the speedo seemed to have a mind if it's own. Compared to the maser, which ties with my satnav almost directly. I was cruising at a constant speed according to the satnav, but the speedo would wander in a range from 80 to 85. I also watched it stay at 77 when I was accelerating, then it caught up later. Odd. I think it must be electronic and averages strangely.

If you're looking for fuel economy and low tax, a hybrid looks like the way to go and I'm sure you'd get used to the way it works quickly enough. The fun changes from going faster to adapting your driving to lower your MPG. The little animated diagram showing where the power is coming from/going to teaches you how it all works and would help you do that.

Phew, didn't mean to turn into Hammond there.

If you want really good economy, get a Golf 1.6 diesel with dct. I have photographic evidence of 84mpg over a 41 mile journey using A roads and motorways. 3 of us did 1800 miles round France and Belgium fully loaded and it averaged 61 mpg which was backed up by a distance /litre calculation.
