Another possibility found.

The inspection has thrown up c£2k of work which with the transport and repairs brings the car in at £36k. Dealer offers £250 off.

It's low miles and not black... but would you buy a car at c£33500 facing a £2k bill from day one?

What's the 2K bill split in parts and labour ?

Some suspension bushes
Electronic handbrake
Exhaust valves
Underside treatment

I know I'm tight, but I don't like paying for repairs from day 1

Nothing too bad then and you have a Good Car.
I'm sure in the current climate they are open for negotiation.
How good is your Poker Face ?

Most they will go to is £250 off.

Think I will just swallow the £500 I have spent already and walk away.

If everything else meets your exacting requirements, why don't you just pull the trigger and be done with it? Every car is going to have a residual problem list, or if not, be more than you want to spend. Any any car that doesn't have those problems when you buy it, will no doubt soon acquire them!

You can't drive a car that you don't have. But maybe that's the point? But the car is likely to still be available in December so you could wait until then!

If it costs you £500 each time to get a to do list you will soon eat up the £2k to fix this one. If everything else meets your exacting requirements it might be worth swallowing the bill and get on and enjoy what you have been chasing for sometime.

As above you could wait a month or two and see if the seller is more amenable then but you have the risk of losing it and the £500 you're already in for.

Sympathiise with buying car "needing work". Hard to find ten year old that wants nothing, but potential MOT fails must be absent.

Both these could be heading that way. What else might crop up when bushes come out ( or won't come out more like) .
"some suspension bushes"
"electronic handbrake"
Does this thread indicate rising prices for "good" GT?

It's already at the high end for a pre face lift car and I'm told by someone in the trade that it does not represent good value at that price plus fixing.

I also think that a dealer selling a car with 'now' known faults should address them and not expect you to pay for them before you even drive the car off the forecourt.

The cosmetic issues are not even added to the bill, neither the 1/2 worn front brakes.

WBAC list at £20k, so the dealer has plenty of wriggle room if they wanted.

If the total cost is ok, then actually I quite like paying for repairs from day 1.

I bought my current QPV where the deal was 'pay £X to the owner for the car, plus £Y to the specialist for the work he is currently doing' - so at least you know what you are getting for '£X+£Y'.
(Plus 'a drink' for @conaero for making it happen!)

Although being asked to pay top dollar for a car that is 'without faults' only to find it needs >£2k of priority work is not the same as being sold a car below book so you can pay for the repairs from the 'savings'.

Still if all those who share your point of view want to foot the bill, you are welcome to chip in... maybe I should start a 'Go Fund Me' page?!?

Walk away.

I’d have only had the inspection done if the Dealer agreed to do any corrective work and you paid the asking price. In your case they are standing by their asking price and also want you to pay for the corrective work. The bottom has well and truly fallen out of the market currently, so I’d go back to being patient and wait for another. That car will sit there unsold for quite a while. As a pre facelift it appears to be a very high asking price already.

In the grand scheme of things the amount of corrective work highlighted is no surprise, regardless if they said it “needs for nothing”. However, if they won’t swallow the cost I’d walk.

A 'drink' for @conaero is affordable, a drink less so. Apostrophes can be an expensive omission!

Are you actually facing a £2k bill? Do they need doing to pass an MOT or are they nice to have. No one is going to replace 1/2 worn brakes.
