Presumably an 'any time' lane then Nik?
Pop down to the location and check it out, if you joined from a side road the side road is meant to have a sign informing you you are joining a road with a bus lane, the lane itself is meant to have a clear advance warning sign on the actual road and then another at the actual start (during the broken lead in line) with repeaters at every recommencement after each junction (side road) and full signage at any major junction. All this needs to be in place and not obscured. Additionally you have a very strong case if you gained no advantage from being in the bus lane i.e. didn't pass any vehicles waiting at traffic lights by nipping down the bus lane. A recent test case changed the precedent on this in favour of the driver. so if say on an empty road you merely wandered into the bus lane for a couple of seconds, cutting the end of the lane, before turning left, you gained no advantage and the fine is disproportionate. Likewise if a vehicle is in the outside lane stationary turning right it is perfectly legal to dip into the bus lane to go around them and keep moving.
Just some observations my friend as Bristol are well known for milking the motorist as a willing cash cow, putting ridiculous restrictions like 24 hour lanes when they are only needed at peak times.
If however you drove through the bus station; well you are on your own!

Was in an area of Bristol I ain't been to for quite a while, been a fair bit of building work round there in the last few yearsand they have changed the road system, tbh I saw the sign, but just too late as no traffic around

It's all about the money Nik; one saddo on minimum wage sitting in the CCTV room only has to ping two an hour to cover his costs, the reality is he will be pinging two a minute over the city... £60 + every time you can see why the motorist is the soft target for the cash strapped city, millions being raked in every year!
