Carole and I have arranged to visit the Lake District in early May, 2012. We will be staying at the Wild Boar Hotel, Crook Road, Windermere, Cumbria, LA23 3NF for three nights commencing Friday 4th May, 2012. Typical cost through the English Lakes website for two people for three nights on a bed and breakfast basis is £336. Two nights £224. The Wild Boar is a four star hotel with it's own restaurant. Guests can also use the spa facilities of the nearby Low Wood Hotel. There are beautiful mountain roads to be explored with breathtaking scenery. Come and join us for dinner at the Wild Boar on 4th May and then enjoy some fabulous driving the next day.

Regards,

Paul

Hearty breakfast with coffee and warm welcome before moving off towards Lake Windermere around 0930 Hrs. Heading south along the shore line to Bowness and Newby Bridge. Skirting the edge of the National park before turning north towards Coniston Water. Purring through Ambleside the journey continues past Rydal Water and along the banks of Thirlmere with mountain scenery in view. Derwentwater, a leisurely lunch and the Lodore Falls Hotel, Borrowdale, Keswick, CA12 5UX beckons our arrival around 1230 Hrs. (Good food is served in the lounge bar for around £10 per person.) The Keswick Launch Company's landing is a short walk from the hotel. Weather permitting particpants are invited to circumnavigate the lake aboard one of their motor boats. (This takes less than an hour and costs £9 per person.) The afternoon excursion takes us to towards Ullswater via 'route 66'. We get to see the entire length of the lake before heading cross country and back to the Wild Boar Hotel. Total distance travelled. Approximately one hundred miles, fifty before and after lunch.

Best wishes,

Paul

Just be aware there are some very narrow and steep lanes around there. Not great for wide cars and F1 style gearboxes.

Sorry I didn't make it Paul but at least after 5 hours graft the Ghibli is back running on six and starting on the starter motor. Oh the joys of an old Maserati.

The Lakes

In the end it was just Carole and I that made it to The Lake District. We were fortunate with the weather. It was cold with crisp blue skies and bright sunshine. We kept to the original driving plan and with stunning scenery in every direction we were not disappointed. The run back from Ullswater along the A592 and through the Kirkstone Pass in particular is to be recommended... Carole will post a few holiday photographs to give a flavour of the event.

Regards,

Paul

Time flies Peter. Our trip with you was in 2010. It was exceptional and come to think of it so was Le Touquet. Thank you for your comments.

Best wishes,

Paul
