Visit to the Vulcan

Sadly it was a no show for the Vulcan at Old Sarum yesterday, and web reports say it returned to base with a fuel problem. The crew will have been mindful of waiting crowds at Goodwood and elsewhere so they would not have taken such a decision lightly, but at least they and the aircraft are safe.

It didn't display at Goodwood either. It could be seen by the TV cameras mooching about over the racecourse but then they announced it had a fuel leak and was returning to Doncaster. Disappointing.

Interest in the visit seemed to be more for next year so I'll pick it up in the new year.

It was a cracking show at Gaydon on Sunday if any of you were there...That old aircraft is just awesome!

I was supposed to scratch my Vulcan itch at Goodwood Revival but due to fluid leaks it had to turn back as it came into view, very, very disappointing.

Right been a bit dilatory on sorting this out due to being bombed out at work but finally got somewhere.

The Vulcan tour is pretty much full on April weekends unless we want to do 3pm on a Sunday so I'm proposing that we go for 3pm on Saturday 7 May.

I've been in touch with the Forest Pines hotel (http://www.qhotels.co.uk/our-locations/forest-pines-hotel-golf-resort/) and they have availability on both Friday and Saturday for group rates. Double occupancy is £240 (£99 Friday and £141 Saturday) B+B and single is £216 (£87 Friday and £129 Saturday). They also have ample parking and will cordon an area off for us.

So I thought a general itinerary would be as follows:

Friday 6 May:

Travel up for those that want/need to.

Saturday 7 May:

Everyone meet for lunch somewhere reasonably close to Finningley. If anyone knows of anywhere then I will check it out. Drew seems to be the master of the gastropub and is fairly local!

Back to the hotel for the odd libation and a nice early night.

Sunday 8 May:

Cars in the Park at Newby Hall in North Yorkshire (http://www.carsinthepark.org.uk/) or home.

Can interested parties add their names below with how many in the party and which nights please? I probably need to confirm to both reasonably soon so I will leave the list for a week and then review where we are on Sunday.

Although I didn't end up buying a QP, I'd like to repay some of the help I received in my search from forum members, I do live in Doncaster so if there's anything I can do to help just let me know and I'll do what I can.

Probably only staying Saturday night, with both able to drive we would most likely do an early and a late one; kids to sort out etc.
