You think you have problems!!!
I've just cancelled two Maserati insurance policies with Privilege.... And re-insured them elsewhere.
Why?
Well, on phoning to tell them I was using the QP abroad again, and would be visiting France, Italy and Switzerland, with a short private session on a track in Modena, they made the following statement:
"You might crash the car on the track, drag it to a nearby road and then claim against us, even if you have insured it elsewhere. We won't provide you with any foreign use cover."
I'm aghast, and have lodged an official complaint. That's an accusation of actually planning to defraud the insurance company!
I would double check, track day insurance normally only covers damage to your car, which on a UK track day is the norm, if you damage any other car it's tough luck for the third party if they don't have cover.
Drew below is asking for insurance cover if you damage a third party...
Phoned my insurance company today - similar to above they will not cover me for any time the car is on the circuit. Looked into separate track day insurance but the ones I looked at are for my car and not any third party (other vehicles or track) - bit stumped at the moment unless someone can find someone that will provide 3rd party cover as required
So where does that leave us wrt the disclaimer? (Although the rules don't say they require 3rd party insurance for the track event, the 'Maseratitude' disclaimer says that by signing it that you do have 3rd party cover, "I hold a driving license valid for the dates of the event and that my vehicle is covered by liability insurance against damage to third parties, including in the context of this event.")
It does Davy, but the answer to that FAQ is "Yes, the policy will cover accident damage to your vehicle whether the accident is caused by you or by another individual on the track." (link ref. http://www.insuremytrackday.com/faqs/).
So your track cover covers you for damage to your car caused as a result of someone crashing into you, but what it doesn't cover is the damage you cause to someone else's car if you were to crash into someone, i.e. 3rd party insurance, which is what the 'Maseratitude' disclaimer is saying you say you have if you sign the form.
EDIT: Just found this in the FAQ section:-
"Will you pay for any damage to the circuit / third party vehicles / property?
The cover provided by Insurers is purely for damage to your car. It does not provide cover for damage to any third party vehicles/property or persons."
