Some insurance companies treat us all like criminals and that does stink for sure. I'm not surprised you voted with your feet, I would have done the same.

You think you have problems!!!

I've just cancelled two Maserati insurance policies with Privilege.... And re-insured them elsewhere.

Why?

Well, on phoning to tell them I was using the QP abroad again, and would be visiting France, Italy and Switzerland, with a short private session on a track in Modena, they made the following statement:

"You might crash the car on the track, drag it to a nearby road and then claim against us, even if you have insured it elsewhere. We won't provide you with any foreign use cover."

I'm aghast, and have lodged an official complaint. That's an accusation of actually planning to defraud the insurance company!

Lost for words!
One insurance company to avoid in future.

So it seems there is no cover for third parties looking into this further that I can see so what is the situation, now they have our money and want a policy that doesn't exist as far as I can see or have been told. Thats not Italian at all......

I would double check, track day insurance normally only covers damage to your car, which on a UK track day is the norm, if you damage any other car it's tough luck for the third party if they don't have cover.
Drew below is asking for insurance cover if you damage a third party...

Phoned my insurance company today - similar to above they will not cover me for any time the car is on the circuit. Looked into separate track day insurance but the ones I looked at are for my car and not any third party (other vehicles or track) - bit stumped at the moment unless someone can find someone that will provide 3rd party cover as required

I think its a typical italian red herring, if none of us can get it what are their options, money back or let us go on.?

So where does that leave us wrt the disclaimer? (Although the rules don't say they require 3rd party insurance for the track event, the 'Maseratitude' disclaimer says that by signing it that you do have 3rd party cover, "I hold a driving license valid for the dates of the event and that my vehicle is covered by liability insurance against damage to third parties, including in the context of this event.")

Talk to the French - they obviously have something in place...or will all be lying as well.

The policy i got from "insuremytrackday" states
[h=3]What if another track day user makes contact with my car, can I still make a claim?[/h]Yes, the policy will cover accident damage to your vehicle whether the accident is caused by you or by another individual on the track.

So while i am not insured for damage to other cars if we all had one of these we would be covered?

It does Davy, but the answer to that FAQ is "Yes, the policy will cover accident damage to your vehicle whether the accident is caused by you or by another individual on the track." (link ref. http://www.insuremytrackday.com/faqs/).
So your track cover covers you for damage to your car caused as a result of someone crashing into you, but what it doesn't cover is the damage you cause to someone else's car if you were to crash into someone, i.e. 3rd party insurance, which is what the 'Maseratitude' disclaimer is saying you say you have if you sign the form.

EDIT: Just found this in the FAQ section:-
"Will you pay for any damage to the circuit / third party vehicles / property?
The cover provided by Insurers is purely for damage to your car. It does not provide cover for damage to any third party vehicles/property or persons."

Had a run around Varano last month in the old banger (fantastic) about 35mins,ruined all four tyres and the two front wheels on the curbs,no insurance of course and the prospect of a 800 mile drive back home haden't really sunk in!

What I'm saying is just go for it, that chance won't ever come again..

I have 3rd party insurance on my car, I also have fully comprehensive insurance, I'm going on, I have paid for the priveledge..!!

Maybe I'm missing something but if EVERYONE on the track has that same level of cover then everyone is covered for damage to their car regardless of whodunit!

I'm happy to go on the track without insurance, just like probably most of us did at Silverstone. We're not racing each other and it's a closed session amongst friends.
It's the silly disclaimer that's the problem - as it says by signing it you have 3rd party track insurance. Which is daft, as most tracks operate one a policy of you're responsible for cost for damage to your own car (regardless of whether you him some one or they hit you).

As Tilum says, in the UK all track day insurance covers the car and if everybody has the same insurance all cars are covered, but damage to barriers, buildings etc always comes out of your own pocket. Therefore our risk is no different regarding third party damage if we have no track day insurance at all. The problem appears to be that the disclaimer is asking for something that is unavailable to UK drivers but I suppose could be the norm in Italy. With regard to the closed sessions amongst friends I sure Benny will not count the French as friends!

I just reread the disclaimer and it is very sketchy. I spoke to a friend in insurance and they said be wary as all you need is one person to get ruffled if there is a "problem" and they could sue you. What I don't understand is that they ask you to have "liability insurance against damage to third parties" and then in the next sentence mention " I am personally responsible for vehicle damage and possible injury I may suffer on track or road".

Hmmmm

I have cover on my car insurance, I have travel insurance and legal cover, with public liability, so I think I am covered, but you never know, so we will see what happens when we arrive at the track..??

I have received track forms from:

allandwf
Arfa
Conaero
Davy83
peavey
Blondie
Blu Elettrico
2b1ask1
Hodroyd
Roger102

Could everyone else intending to take their car to the track please complete and email the form to me asap?

Don't leave it to the last minute - I need to get them to the organisers.

Here's the sort of insurance the French guys apparently use for the track:

However, the Autodromo di Modena doesn't appear on the drop-down lists, so I've asked how they got around this. 35 euros doesn't sound like a bad deal to me... If nothing else, I'll talk to this company tomorrow morning.
