Geneva Motor Show combined with a ski weekend?

As a few members have a passing interest in cars, I wondered if anyone fancied joining me at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year?

Entrance to the show is cheap, and can be bought on the day at the door with virtually no queues. The Salon is in the PalExpo buildings right next to the airport; in fact you walk through the terminal, through the railway station and to the entrance doors without going outside, except for the last 20m or so to the nearest entrance. It's a 5 minute walk... Considering the time it will take me to drive there, queue for the parking (which isn't a 5 minute walk away) and then get to the entrance, it's likely to be the case that you can get there faster from London than I can from 20 miles away.

It's easily doable as a day trip from the UK, with a cheap flight into Geneva, all day at the show, and a flight back out the same day. The cheap flights sell out early, particularly as it's ski season too, so I'd suggest they are snapped up sooner rather than later. Currently, as an example, there are plenty of flights available at under £90 return (many around £75) for mid-week. The show is open to the public from Thursday 5th to Sunday 15th March, but I'd strongly recommend NOT going at either weekend. It gets rammed... The halls are particularly empty though in the early evening, so well worth considering a later flight back.

I'm thinking of going on Thursday 12th March, but happy to change that if it suits others better.

It might work out that we could engineer something into a SportsMaserati ski weekend too ;)

Any takers?

I may be in Geneva on business around that time, but won't know exact details for a while. If so and something is organised I will tag along (but not for skiing :) )

It's a nice image, but I fear young Hodroyd's skiing days are probably behind him. The apres-ski is another matter entirely!

I can vouch for that. I haven't been since the launch of the 159 but I'm sure it hasn't changed. We made the mistake of going on a Saturday and it was just unpleasant. Good show though, well worth seeing.

I'll be in Cham over Easter so I'll be missing this :sad1:

I may be there as it's around the time I go to Chamonix. If I am I'll probably just potter around quickly though, then get the shuttle bus up the hill.

Need to sort out accommodation in Chamonix first though (not the easiest thing!).

LHR has more expensive taxes than £35, Phil...how do you work that one out?

BA, frequent flyer. Loads of avios. banged in the date drew mentioned and it comes up as 9,000 Avios points and £35 for return from LHR to Geneva. Happy days....

Its easy for me to get to Gatwick, Heathrow is a pain. I will have a look around but for £50 extra I would rather go from LGW

No Skiing for me, not after last time :battered:
