I went in an e39 M5 a few weeks ago, they warm up quite fast, at first you cant go above 4.5k rpm but the warning lights soon disappear. Also, because the gearbox is a short throw box, when your in third or fourth it looks like your in neutral. They dont half pull though, once near the high end of the rev range, they really fly.

I would say my E39 M5 was faster than my 3200........If was a far more capable car...quicker and faster in the bends......Thats not to say I didn't love my 3200 as well...M5 is a stunning car and just doesn't feel as big as it is. The best big M car BMW has made.

Not a great fan of BMW but I have always liked the M5.

The M3 is a great car but has a real image problem what with so many nobs driving them.

M1 - now man that was nice!
M2 - don't think it exists
M3 - nuff said
M4 - never heard of one
M5 - brilliant with that V10
M6 -

M7 and upwards still to come?

i was not expecting the v8 to be that quick compared to other cars i have been in such as the Gransport but it was hugely capeable and once it was at about 5.5k rpm, it flew. A great car for the money although there are a lot of ropey ones out there, the one i went in was a bit of a shed, 110k miles and certainly looked like it had done that.

Another nice car to try out would be the Alpina B3 e46, a friend of mines dad just bought one, sounds well. Borrowed the e39 m5 when the B3 was in for some TLC.

The new D3 is nice, although you dont get leather on them as standard which is a con as Alpina's are not cheap.
