But still depreciating Frank! The 996 at that price is rock solid, a few sensible mods (like a black wheel and overmats will see it make even a few 100 quid more!

The pictures finally turned up for the 1972 S2 in Derby. And what a beauty she is!! Engine and gearbox rebuild, a few performance mods that I can see, full bare metal restoration, interior is perfect. Very tasty lightweight re-edition wheels.

Coming it at under £8k.

Aiming to see both of them on Saturday.

Boat tail - the most desirable Alfa Spider, high miles, original but very clean car, likely rebuild on box and motor but not confirmed, very expensive. White with red, period but still rare.

Kamm tail - gorgeous but not like the 1750, perfect condtion inside and out, fast and still very desirable. Red with black, common but traditional. A bargain by compariosn but nowhere near as desirable a car. But probably better in every way.

Genuinely don't know what to do...

Opinions of my fellow Italian motoristas? And don't give me the 'buy whichever you like' line as I like them both!! The Kamm will probably feel a bit faster, 200cc of torque extra and whatever power comes with that and the filters (plus whatever else is done to the engine). But the boat tail is a thing of beauty.

Bugger 'em both! Triple the budget and find a nice, early 60's Giulietta, sound but in need of some interior attention and you might even see your investment again one day. That's the TRUE classic Spyder! One day, when my numbers come in and I have garage space...

Until then it's GOT to be the boattail.

boat tail for me, you are buying this car for it's looks so go for the better looking one, does not matter how quick it is you will be driving it slow so everyone can admire how lovely it looks.?

Only thing is with the red one - drive to an event and park up next to 15 identical ones...

Also have my eye on a white Kamm tail, it's as good quality as the red car but 1975 (pay tax, silly back seats) and doesn't have the mods, which I will want to add - as that's what I always do! It £1500 more as well, Sarah likes it but can rule it out I think as will want to throw another £2k at it.

Boat tail guy paid £10.3k 2yrs ago. He's since spent £4.3k on it and expects to see his money back, will have to try and explain to him cars don't work that way! However, he has the only boat tail I can find in our perfect colour. Hate to pay over the odds.

If the boat tail isn't special or we think overpriced, I'll go for the red one. Should see both in the same day.

Thanks for the thoughts, keep 'em coming!

Boat tail was untidy up top and rusty underneath! Someone will get a year or two out of it but then it would need a lot of work. Shame, but I knew when I saw it it wasn't what I wanted, too scruffy, I couldn't handle it.

The red S2 was probably the best in the country according to my pal who travelled up to see it with me, so we shook hands at £8k provisionally. He's got to get an MOT and I've got to get some money!

It's a LHD drove coverted to RHD. This means you can't have the crappy big old fashioned airbox so there are 2 K&N filters on the twin choke Webers. Induction was much louder than the exhaust which was lovely!!

Oh, and those Momo wheels are 70s originals, not replicas! Worth a lot of money, might sell them and get lightweight Alfa replicas instead. I think they're kind of cool though.
