As per my mutterings in the Good Morning thread thinking of holding a mini cycle event as I know we have a lot of keen cyclists on here.

Thinking 2 days over a weekend, staying one night in a pub or rural hotel, need a support car driver (Benny???)

Could do UK or even Cherbourg maybe.

What I need is a show of hands and which bike/terrain you can do. No dates as yet but would be in the spring as the weather improves.

Non competitive, just for fun.

The list:

I would be up for it dependent on distance, I need a target to aim for in my get fit campaign but will never be up for the sort of distances that some of you serious cyclists can do.

Nothing too serious, two days of 50 miles each, it's easy, on a decent road bike and moderate fitness that would be done in circa 3hrs.

What we should do is further if it's road, 3hrs cycling in the morning, lunch al fresco, another 3 hrs in the afternoon so you will be looking at the 80-100 mile range.

If you bought a middle of the road ali road bike (£500 Specialized or equivalent) cycled once or twice a week for two months and were of average weight and fitness you would handle that no problem.

I'm up for that. Road for me please although I'll do offroad too if the majority vote that way.

Either for me, have road & hybrid,
Would need to be a circuitous route though I would suggest as most will have to travel, and therefore need to be reunited with there transport.
All ready have a 3 day event 1st bank holiday in May!

50 miles sounds reasonable, best start looking for a road bike as well ;)

If you have a budget, it's better to buy used rather than new. Post on here you budget and inside leg measurement and will will find you something.

If you want to buy new and money is not really an issue, expect to pay £2-3k for a recognised carbon bike and at least another £500 on clothing and accessories and spares.

Used, you would get all that for well under a grand, or budget you will get a shiny boat anchor and have to drag it up hills in a panting red faces mess.

Weight is everything in cycling!...the more you pay the less you get...the more you cycle the more you lose.

Absolutely.

Drew, Geoff Capes, Contigo, Emtee, no hiding, I know your all keen cyclists. I won't laugh at your legs in Lycra, honest :)

Oh, and misery guts Urby too I suppose.

As it happens I am heading out in 20 minutes,
Apparently I have to empty the washer into the dryer first!

If I can make the date(s), count me in. As it's an Italian car forum 'do' it'll be a great excuse to dust off the Colnago, which hasn't turned a wheel this year!

If possible (and suits the majority), the further towards summer the better for me as my lad's footy season should have finished by then.

Yes mate - count me in! Out on the mountain looking at the grass....

Prefer road bike ideally.

OK, road biking looks favourite.

Lets make the first one in the UK, we can always do a France one at a later date.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Nothing too hilly, ideally in the middle of us all, I hear Norfolk is flat :)

I've told you before - flat isn't good! There's no rest periods... Gentle rolling hills much better :)

What a great idea,
alas I must be counted out but I am green with envy and what a tremendous thread with offers of purchasing a suitable cycle
What a forum this is!!
I cycle my local area daily just for an hour tops and have been out every day for the last 2 years and I love it.
However I am in my woolly beany hat 2 jumpers and jeans ( I do look the part) and of course my trusty steed that some of you may recall
btw I thought Lycra was for those 'special nights' every other Thursday?

How about a nice ride from the top of Ditchling Beacon to Brighton, I reckon I could cope with that ;)

I'm in (date dependant). Road obviously.

Not too many hills though I have a 54 chainset. Good for down hill though!

That's no excuse Dave, on my first Sportive, Northern Rock cyclone, Newcastle, there were 3 distances, I signed up for middle at 62 miles, the other 2 were 35 and 100, you started in your mileage group, after an hour I caught a lady, riding a bike with a shopping basket on the front, I assumed she was going to the next village for groceries, as I pulled alongside I noticed she had a number and timer, she was indeed signed up for the 100 miler,
Oh the shame!!
