must admit never heard that one, don't think i've needed to flat anything for a couple of decades but if memory serves me right i probably just fudged it with flat steel plate instead of glassPut the sand paper on the glass and rub the bit you want to flat on the paper. Without spending a couple of hundred quid on a surface plate it’s about the truest flat you can find, certainly around the house. I’m surprised you’ve not heard of doing it.

i think blue hylomar was my friend in those days probablyMost plate is milled so actually has a slight curve too it. It probably doesn’t make any difference but it’s the way I was taught.
The welders at work have straight edges (looks like a heavy ruler) that cost £200 and are calibrated weekly.
Difficult to make that out, is it a crack
