Hello!

I’ve been lurking for a number of years now and finally have spousal approval to take the plunge..

My problem being that I am clearly looking for a rare specification;

A colour (ideally not black or white)
Trident alloy wheels
2010 onwards S (possibly a Sport)
Automatic (might consider MC with recently replaced clutch)
Part Alcantara interior, not full leather.
Ideally both carbon packs

Anyone considering selling a similar specification car in the next six months or so?

Welcome. The problem as you probably know is you are mixing your preference between the GTS Auto and GTS in terms of spec. The former came with Tridents as standard and the latter with alcantara as standard. Tough one to get right but wheels and carbon can be swapped so I would start looking for a car with alcantara but that probably means you are buying a GTS.

You have not said whether you want skyhook or not? Standard on the GTS Auto but a cost option on the GTS.

I hope you get what you want but personally I would compromise to get into these great cars.

What is your budget?
I’ve been looking for my first one recently too.

there is a blue one in Derbyshire on autotrader at a place called BAM. Still at Maserati in prep for sale.
The blue one at Hamilton Grays in Loughborough is sold.

The red one on pistonheads with alcantara dash is sold.

there is a red one with a stradale bonnet on AT. I question why does it have a new bonnet.

the dark red one on AT is reserved.

not many colours around, mostly black/white/grey

Welcome indeed.

Have a read of the specs here https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/specification-options-price-list.16190/post-411407

Trident design wheels are quite rare on a GT mainly because people tended to go for the Neptunes or Birdcage as they were no cost options.

I’d recommend driving them, as a pre-sport auto is quite a different experience from the MC Auto Shift in the Sport. Also a pre sport auto should have 4 round exhaust pipes instead of the MC Shift ovals.

Your potential wants cover quite a lot of ground, so that at least should give you some options on different colours.

I shouldn’t be that hard to find one that fits this brief, though you may well have to change the wheels retrospectively as Neptune’s are more popular/typical. Keep looking and something will crop up.
That said, and especially if it’s to be your first Maserati, I’d put history, condition and exterior colour way before something minor like interior fabric.

Yes I understand that I am looking for something quite specific; from what I've seen quite a few people 'upgraded' the Alcantara interior for full leather anyway, which makes the search even more difficult.

Not remotely fussed regarding Skyhook.. I've read almost equal opinions for as against it.

I don't have a specific value to stick to, but I suppose I'm looking at mid to low £30's for the right car. I appreciate that doesn't seem to go very far with the current Covid affect on values.

It looks like our research has highlighted the same cars!

I have been looking at this as a possibility but I can't help but feel it's highly priced, and a question mark over provenance regarding servicing and upgrades as it is a pre-2010: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202204204824532

Thank you for the list to the specifications, it highlighted a couple of items on one of the recent cars I have looked at down in Kent.

I think I need to try and find an S Auto and a Sport Auto to drive; from what I understand the S Auto is a more 'raw' experience?

Yes I appreciate that is a huge piece of the puzzle.

I have looked at one so far, a 2012 S with the MC gearbox; it was very highly priced I thought - especially as it had previously been wrapped, needed a lot of paint correction, the headlining had been out as some of the clips had not been reinstalled and it an unknown exhaust modification.

I’ve not driven an Auto S, but as I understand it, it’s more like a traditional auto rather than the Sport with MC Auto Shift which has been programmed to be more like the MC shift.

The Autotrader ad you linked looked nice but is probably due it’s second clutch replacement - if this has been done and the subframe is good then seems reasonable.
Big ticket items to watch for are:
Variator (which you know)
Clutch ((£4k)
Subframe (£2k if it’s saveable)
Brakes (£1k per axle)
Cam cover gaskets (£1500)

don’t be afraid to ask for £5k off list price.
Definitely worth paying for a PPI - I have used Nick Giles & Nuvola in recent weeks and got a great service from each (although nick doesn’t have diagnostic kit to read clutch wear)

Goodness Will, drive some different ones and discover what you like.
They're all good, but they differ in the sort of goodness they have. You might find that the way one drives suits you even more than alcantara.

MC Auto Shift which has been programmed to be more like the MC shift.
But even so, they are very different beasts - you just don’t get the same “kick”, as I discovered yesterday, still amazing car though.

Yes, the main difference is that and the shift speed (60ms Strad, 80ms MC Shift and 100ms MC Autoshift). It’s surprising the difference it makes to the drive.

Thank you for your replies, I suppose I need to try and find some Kent/London cars to try!

I didn’t appreciate the difference between them all.

The Blu Med one is highly likely to be one I have sold twice in the past. I spent a fortune on it once, if you want I’ll give you the lowdown on what I knew when I sold it. Give me a call if you wish.

Oh wonderful, thank you! I’ll make enquiries with the owner and I’ll likely be in touch with you next week, if that’s ok?

It’s a shame it’s not closer to you or I’d ask you if you could give it a thorough PPI

I’ve been lookin again....if only this did not have the brown wheel and accents....
Yes, I agree, that’s an acquired taste that’s for sure!

If it’s only that putting you off you could pay to have them painted in a high gloss black, or maybe body coloured?

The trim can be wrapped, the wheel can be refinished beautifully for a few hundred quid
