2013 GTS Front headlight washer stuck out…

I have removed the fuse so they stay in place permanently after I lost a cover out of the blue.
Let’s be honest, they don’t really clean the headlights anyway.
Wasn’t an issue at a recent MOT either.
When I got my GTS last year, the fuse was already unplugged. I plugged it back in but as you say the washers don't do much and if anything just muck up the whole front end. So it's unplugged again after the last MOT in October.

Interesting that the MOT didn't pick it up, I thought it was a check item?

It’s two man because someone has to activate the washer and someone (the drenchee) has to catch the pole as it sticks out. A job for the wife it seems.

As for putting them back on, you are likely
to need replacement. But you can confirm once your wife has removed them.

Thanks.

If the clips are broken will the nozzle still push back into the telescopic arm so the cover fits flush again with the bumper? If so I’ll remove the fuse until it can be repaired / replaced.

I think it is but didn’t get raised on mine recently.

Should do, yes.

Or remove the fuse and the nozzle and just stick the cover on.

Yes. The clips are missing. They would hold the nozzle further into the tube (circled) and water is leaking from where the clips would go (arrow).

Daft question time.

Assume the cover is attached to the spray nozzle? If so does the spray nozzle just pull out of the telescopic arm?

Also, if the fuse was take out whilst the telescopic arm is fully extended, will it stay in that position or retract?

Just trying to work out the best coping mechanism to get the covers back flush with the bumpers.

The Cat is right. Be careful, just pushing them back in will mean that the nozzle and covers are secured by the friction between the nozzle and the telescope.

Losing a nozzle isn’t a big deal if it falls off. Losing a cover is a total pain as they need painting. It’s better to have it looking bad for a few weeks than struggling to get the paint matched on a replacement cover.

Thinking about it, not sure I am right. There's not water pressure now, so remving the fuse will change nothing. Pretty sure I meant to say they *won't* retract

They should retract all the way in. There is a very strong spring inside. When you buy a new unit from Maserati it comes with a white plastic clip, which stops the tube from retracting inside fully. You can see it in the attached photo. It makes fitting the nozzle and cover easy as you get to use both hands. As a matter of fact, the thin pipe has a small indentation where the white clip sits in to prevent it from completely disappearing inside the big mechanism.

I had to buy the whole unit since my spray nozzle and cover were lost due to broken tabs/not fully retracted. £200 down the drain as you cannot buy the nozzles separately…

You can push the nozzle back into the tube though. It’s just that nothing is holding it in there.
I was looking at the photo earlier with the broken tabs and thinking - what if the tube is extended and then the nozzle is super glued back to the pipe. Proper gel like super glue applied alongside the length of the nozzle that goes inside the pipe should be able to hold it securely?

Try it on the Ghibli. You can only buy both sprayers and the pipework....

  • headlight washers on vehicles first used from 1 September 2009 (if they have them)
If pre Sept 2009 then not a test item - I have one faulty so just pulled the fuse and as it's a late 2008 it's not part of the MOT

I thought they were a requirement for cars with HID lights and if they were fitted, they had to work?
