What financial investments would you make for a child?

minimum 18ct if going for gold, none of that 9ct sh1t, by the way does anyone watch Gold Rush I'm absolutely fascinated by it
Needs to be even higher quality than that- investment grade. Easily done through the likes of Bullionvault via an account..
Yes I watch Gold Rush, fab programme. Incredible what it takes to find the stuff!

hats off to that Parker Schnabel think he's early 20's and mining kg's of the stuff, donkey Hoffman crew couldn't find gold in a jewellery store even if they tried no wonder they're not in the new series
i think the “Beet” family have been an excellent addition to the show. Their togetherness and work ethic as a family is admirable whilst some of Tony’s Historical business decisions have been brutal, (to Parker in particular) but made the show more compelling.

How old is your godson and do you want him to be able to enjoy it now, or enjoy it when he is older?

For example, could you buy a barrel of wine, or a barrel of whisky, or a part share, in the hope that in a few years when he gets older, that it will have either increased in value, or he will be able to drink it as part of a special occasion?

He's 16 months old and I'm wanting something as some sort of investment for him to enjoy when he's more of age.

As I'm kinda wanting it to be something with which he'd treat himself (rather than, as I errantly said, 'for a rainy day' or a house deposit) when finally of an age to do so, that's a rather nice idea that I'll investigate. His parents would wholly approve too!

Although I'd be concerned if they could get access to nice booze before time that they may test its quality rather too often in the meantime! For similar reasons, it may need to be stored away from me too!

Think most basis have been covered.
What about an unusual “stamp” or small piece of art from an up and coming artist that may increase in value....
Share in a racehorse......

Build on other suggestions, something from the year of his birth that is worthless now but by the time he's 18 or 21 would have a certain kudos if not monetary value. Imagine its the early 80's and you got him an early apple computer when the next one had come out. They would have been peanuts to buy but now priceless.

Multiple variations of the same idea are possible... and there’s plenty of places that would store it in bond or en primeur...

For example, depending on how many £100s you wanted to spend these would all be rather nice wine purchases...

However, if he’s only 16 months old, they might all be ready before he is!

Thanks Jon,

I really don't know why I didn't think of wine or similar! It's only one of the main hobbies of his parents, me and our closest friends together! Between us we have access to a fair selection of possibilities. Starting to think of port or some rather good grower-producers in Champagne that I know. Thinking of things that'll just keep ageing. Whisky barrell similarly a good shout.

Two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.

too much overthinking, just go with a nice 18ct solid (avoid hollow cr4p) gold bracelet engraved from yourselves, will always remember you when you're dead and buried;)

The rest you could just waste :)
