Folks,

Putting feelers out there for a summer Yorkshire run. No idea of date yet but I'd like to make it a Saturday and an early set off, hopefully enjoy a sunny morning.

Was in Scarborough the other week and a convoy of Maserati's along the coastline and through the North / South Bay would be quite a site. I'm thinking .....

Teesside to Scarborough down the coast
Scarborough to York
York to Teesside up the A19.

Nice full day of it, if it gets going it put in some research on places we can stop for a bite to eat. If you are interested then can you add your name to the list. For dates I'll say around end of June / start of July

Would probably be better to find a different route from Scarborough to York. The A64 can be a terrible road for traffic between Malton and York in the summer. There are a few alternative routes back that would lead themselves to more spirited driving.

I'm tempted but a Teesside start means me doing the A19 first. Not that doing laps is a problem :D

To be honest I just banged the destinatons into the route planner to get an idea, not sure I've ever actually driven Scarborough to York so happy for someone to come up with a route for that bit. Its going to be busy anyway, certainly from Teesside down the coast it won't be an opportunity to get the toe down, nice drive though.

Route is always difficult with people in different locations but if you're york you could just maybe meet us Scarborough or a little further up. I know York very well but can you think of any places central or a bit further out that maybe 5+ cars could rock up to and grab some lunch at ? I'm thinking easy parking.

4) Doohickey - Can't do June but any of the first few weekends in July look OK at the moment.

Agree with Mick on staying off the A64 - it's awful on summer weekends. Might be worth thinking about somewhere around Helmsley or Guisborough as a meet up and then nipping over to Whitby.

There is an organised Yorkshire and Cumbria run being organised by friends of mine, people who do the routes are ex MSA and used to work on Rally GB etc.,.. Usually a great bunch who take part.

http://www.europeanclassicclub.co.uk/uk-tour-cumbria--yorkshire-may-2016.html

I am doing the event (hopefully) in my Sunbeam Tiger.

I thought that looks good until I saw the £425 entry fee, why is it so high if accommodation is extra , add on food, accommodation and fuel and it could be £1000 for a trip round the lakes

The evening meal on Saturday is included and entry to most of the venues and refreshments at many you them.. The biggest thing you are paying for is the organisation, there is a team of people ensuring the event runs smoothly and that participants have an enjoyable experience and as I said before it is organised by people who used to organise Rally GB and the MSA Euroclassic.

On top of that it also includes mechanical assistance (Brit Assist http://www.britassist.eu ) and an event doctor.

Once you do one of these events you realise they are actually very good value!

Cars have to be pre 1996 also.

It looks great but it's obviously a step way ahead of what I was intending here. Hope to get lots more interested however. We had a little Yorkshire run out last year and it was a good day. Be nice to have a few extras cars attend and extend it by a few miles.

Get your names down folks

They don't have to be pre 1996.....

"A limited number of entries may be made available to other vehicles which the organisers consider 'interesting' or of 'special interest'." and a Maserati would obviously fall into that category and anyone with any remotely interesting car is unlikely to be turned away if introduced by a long term participant like myself.

Ah I see , more to it than meets the eye , when I think about it I spent over a £1000 on a weekend to London , it started with a £36 ride in a taxi and didn't finish until my wallet was empty , I bet I'd come back from spending £1000 on this in a much better mood

Yes, I'd be up for this.
Agree on A64, from York it's best to take A166 through Stamford Bridge and head on the roads the motorbike boys use. I can help with planning that part of the route if required.

I think, if the route is back from Whitby, down to Scarborough, and then to York, that the best route from there would be to head towards Pickering and come down into York through Sheriff Hutton or some such. Having lived on the A166 just outside Stamford Bridge for a year that also gets stuffed up on a weekend depending on the time of day.

Though Stamford Bridge has a pub similar to the one we are visiting after the Vulcan so might make a good place to park up and grab something unless anyone has any better ideas?
