Afternoon chaps

These two North West events may be of interest during the long Bank Holiday.

I can vouch for the Gold Cup at Oulton Park. Fabulous historic racing at Oulton Park which is a superb spectator circuit.

"From 11am visitors can expect to see dazzling displays of racing, rally, and sports cars, veteran and vintage vehicles, together with racing and classic motorcycles, all taking place in and around the compact town centre.
The event already has F1 cars in its line-up and expects a superb oversubscribed entry as it has seen huge interest from individuals and motor and car and motorcycle clubs nationwide.
The Williams F1 motor-racing car driven by Alan Jones to win the world championship in 1980 will also be on display, along with a BRM car that was driven in the last Formula 1 race at Aintree.
Other vehicles signed up to appear include supercars and competition motorcycles, including one ridden by the late Joey Dunlop, a former world motorcycling champion.
There will also be MG racing and rally cars, a Metro 6R4, Group B rally cars and racing motorcycles, the Santa Pod Raceway Top Fuel Dragster and a Riley TT from the 1930s.
Many of the cars on display will be taking part in parade laps around the town centre between 2.30pm and 4.30pm."

I went to the inaugral event last year. See the display car in action on the parade laps around the town centre

And on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, the Gold Cup at Oulton Park
http://www.oultonpark.co.uk/calendar/2012/august/gold-cup.aspx

"The Oulton Park Gold Cup is the north west's premier historic race meeting and will be bigger and better than ever this weekend!
On track a superb race programme will feature historic single seaters, sports, touring and saloon cars on the classic 2.6 mile undulating circuit.
Meanwhile there will be lots of entertainment in addition to the racing as the Cheshire circuit rolls back the years to its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s. There will be classic car and commercial vehicle displays, including track parades and bus rides around the track, whilst period fairs, face painting, parachute displays, brass bands, trade stands and even a 60s and 70s disco will transform the atmosphere. Spectators are encouraged to dress for that era, with many attractions only available to those taking part, including a special grid walk on the Monday!
There will also be historic demonstrations on the rally stages including the popular Group B era, with hot rides available to purchase on the day.

Enjoy James
