Releasing the EPB

I don't normally leave it off, but should have done as this morning after having not driven it for a week it came up with an ABS and brake failure error after I pulled away, 400 yards after I pulled over switched the engine off then on and all back to normal so I think it must have been binding.

I tried to release it when I got back home and will try to get into a routine but what i the correct way to release it on the QP, I thought it was put your foot on the brake and then switch the engine off and lift the EPB lever, but must be getting it wrong in my old age.

Can any one advise the correct way to ensure it is always off?

Thanks.

Yes press the park off button before turning ignition off. You will see PARK OFF displayed in the DIS if it is anything like the GT. Sorry mate my QP had an old fashioned handbrake.

Thanks Phil, so just lift the lever, put foot on brake and switch the engine off?

On the dash area near the stereo there should be a button (like the SPORT one) which says "PARK OFF" on it. If there is press that, it should leave the car in gear (does on the MC Shift GTS) but in a ZF Auto you would obviously be in Park.

Whilst I use 'Park Off' when leaving the car overnight or longer there is another way which should work on your QP. Switch off as normal and you will hear the EPB deploy. Then turn the ignition back round all the way without starting the engine and flick the switch to release the EPB and you will hear it dis-engage. Then turn the ignition off and you should not hear the EPB re-engage. It's a a hassle but does work.

There isn't one on mine either. Sometimes you can just release the EPB after it has engaged automatically and turn ignition off when it has gone off. Sometimes you do that and it goes back on again. However in that instance just turn electrics on only and release EPB again by pulling EPB switch on centre console then switch off ignition and it will stay off then.

Thanks Bob, will check it out. I know it comes up with something about apply the foot brake, just needs some time to run it through.

Ta Phil,

Just been out tonight and got it sussed, the little give away was wait until the pressure was achieved and then press again to switch off (approx. 5 secs).

You know I could have sworn that I didn't have a Park off button on the dash, but I stand corrected and apologise Phil, but I was looking on the left and it was on the right.

So what is the difference between the Park off Button on the dash and manual doing it by flipping the parking brake lever?

Nothing really. Basically I always push (and hold) the park off button before turning off the ignition. That way the EPB doesn't engage when you switch off the car. Once it has been engaged then you have to use the little lever (accompanied with your foot on the brake) to disengage it, if you want it off before you switch off. Of course, it will disengage if you put the car into Drive.

Great bit of info guys. Hadn't driven mine QP for 4 weeks and the EPB was stuck solid, just wouldn't disengage. I'll know better for next time .. thanks
