Ok, and I don't want to cause members clutches exploding, use at your peril!

1. turn on sport and manual and turn off MSP (hold for 2 seconds)
2. put the car in 1st, then press the brake pedal for 5 seconds
3. give it a good half pedal of gas

What will happen is the revs will scream up but there will be no movement initially, then the ECU will dump the clutch and the car will launch like a surface to air missile, leaving 2 black lines behind you and a smell of rubber and clutch.

We were all sceptical, but Gixerboy proved us all wrong......we are all still learning!

If it does not work initially, try it a couple of time and then you will get the hang of it.

This definatley worked in the QP 4.2 GT and it did not work on the 4200/GS and we are assuming it works on the GT but its not been proven as yet.

Hmm, wonder if that works on the MCV given it's meant to be track-focused?........

Interesting ... I am sure this is the same as for Ferrari launch control from a few years ago, and I always wondered whether it worked on the 4200/GS. Now I know!

I'll see if I can find a link to the Ferrari procedure, this is just from memory so maybe it is not the same.

To be honest Miles, I wouldn't try it if I were you.

I've given this some more thought, this is the definition of launch control from Wikipedia:
Launch control operates by using an electronic-driven accelerator and a computer program. The software drives the accelerator according to engine specifications to make the car accelerate smoothly and as fast as possible, avoiding spinning of the drive wheels, engine failure due to over-revving, and clutch and gearbox problems.

What we saw last night was simply the system dumping the clutch, hence the "11" left on the tarmac.

There also wasn't any "control" only "launch" in that you couldn't be sat at the lights for example waiting for them to go green and launch as they changed using this method.

I would suggest that this is actually the car at rest, disengaging the clutch and then being caught unaware as such and dumping the clutch. Probable results after repeated use would be a worn clutch and/or a broken drive shaft.

There's no benefit to be gained from this so therefore I'd imagine it would only be doing damage. Allbeit quite fun to watch, espcially with Urby near by :D

Thanks for the words of caution guys. Maybe not then :bigcry3:

Would be nice if there was a proper launch system though, as the one thing that always irks is the dwell from stationary as the ECU sends a 2nd class letter to the clutch.

Hi guys,
As stated, this is more of a racing start than launch control, I have found that it does work well if used " sensibly" although that may be a bit of a contradiction...
With the car at rest, a gentle push on the throttle will cause the car to lauch quickly.. It's the rate of change of throttle angle that gives the racing start.... Perfect for traffic lights .... :)

I once discovered something similar with a Smart car. Basically what you did was very quickly floor the accelerator and then release it, repeat 3-5 times and what would happen is that the revs would build to about 3,000 rpm without the clutch actually engageing and then the final time you'd leave your foor burried and the clutch would engage and off you went.

Not quite as dramatic as the QP last night, but it was quicker than a lot of things from 0-10mph!
