The Imber Run on Sunday 19th September 2010

The uninhabited village of Imber is an interesting and little-known aspect of modern history and sits in the centre of the Army's Salisbury Plain training area. The village and its surrounding area is out of bounds to the public for almost the whole year but Sunday, 19th September marks one of the few days of public access allowed this year, so the IAMC plans to take advantage of this. Initially we shall be meeting from 12.00 at The Bell at Standerwick for a 12.30 lunch. The pub is on the A36, about 1.5 miles south of the roundabout next to the Services at Beckington where the A361 joins the A36. After enjoying our meal we will drive to Imber and take a look around. From there we will take on some of the fine driving roads that the Plain has to offer. If you wish to join us for lunch please email flyingteacup@tiscali.co.uk and if you just want to come along for the village visit we plan to leave the pub at 2.00pm. Seven miles from any Towne,

Sheep bleats the unly sound,

Life twer sweet with ne'er a vrown,

Oh let us bide on Imber Downe.
