Scotland/North England/Norn Iron meet?

It has to be freezing in scotland.....is it a lot worse than here in winter?

It can be, but not always so.
It def colder waaaay further North - I am regularly in the Orkney Islands and its noticeably colder there, but I have had plenty of good sunny days up there too.
I notice the weather in Liverpool is noticeably less active than in the West of Scotland , by this I mean it seems more variable more of the time in Scotland.

Add to that its generally drier in the east of Scotland too, than in the west. It all adds up to a bit of a mixed bag really.

West is usually wet in the UK as a whole and from past experience you can drop a minimum of 2 degC in Scotland to England, usually more like 5 deg lower than say London..!!

Bah, I was with you until this. Perhaps you mean the barren rock known as Shetland? Orkney (or the Fiji of the North as it is often called) never dips below a balmy 30 degrees even in the deepest of winter. I'm driving up there next week for some Christmas sun.
