SZ Prices

Will people have the same discussion about the 8C in years to come? Limited run, stupid people buying them when there were other cars which were dynamically better and cheaper?

The SZ came out at the tail end of the wedge shaped cars (Lambos/TVRs/BMW M1 / 8-series etc etc...). I'm not 100% sold on the styling (especially the back) and god knows what its like to drive, but I think its pretty cool and I know that if I saw one of those in my rear view mirror, I would probably **** my pants and get out of the way - it looks mean in a old Aston Vantage sort of way.

Was the front of the 159 inspired by SZ - it ceratinly has some styling cues and I quite like the look of the 159 for a saloon car.....

The 159 does look nice Si, best looking car in it's class.

The SZ i think was the ugliest car out of the wedge shaped cars around that time, BMW M1 (cloud9) stunning car. I just think the SZ looks it's age so bad, the other cars of this period look their age like the countach and M1 etc but i think they can still get away with it and in some cases, look beter now than they did when they rolled off the production line.

In the late 80's there was this and they are worth a heck of a lot more than a crummy SZ.

no it is not, but if you want to be OTT and cause an impression, no other car does it better than a Countach Anniversary.

Horrid Adam .... SZ is soooo much cooler .... You need a chest wig and gold dripping from every part of your body to drive that ...

Any way back to the SZ ....Thanks for posting the PH thread Adam ... Lets pick out some bits from it ...

Looking at one today, however, we'd argue that it's a cool car. Alfa only made 1063 of them.

As an appreciating asset and superb piece of engineering to play with now and then (they could pull 1.4g in the corners due to a race-derived, shortened Alfa 75 platform), we can see a lot of appeal in owning an SZ today.

performed well and generated truly phenomenal amounts of grip.

Safrane - quality link there - gotta get me one of those stretched Rangies......!

Adam - I never got the E-type until I got a bit older and then realised that it was stunning - maybe you might warm to the SZ in a few years. All I know is that I had a suit with shoulder pads bigger than te SZs spolier and I thought I was man!

i really dont get the E type either, i think it looks boring to Ferrari's creations from the 60's, Ferrari 275 GTS i will maintain one of the all time prettiest cars ever made, i would buy one to take pictures of with Kelly Brook draped all over the bonnet.

I'm with you on this one Adam. The E Type was, and always has been, overrated in my opinion. Nice shape, the end. A triumph of form over function.

Guys, this is sacrilege! The XK Type E will always be considered to be one of life's beauties. It incorporated all that was known about aerodynamics plus the packaging demands of having a staright engine rather than a Vee (see the Tuscan for a modern example) and just ended up having that shape; it had a Le Mans winning heritage, Le Mans winning engine and brakes (from the XKD) and was CHEAP - that was the bit that captured the imagination, at the time they were less money than an MGBGT V8! Vastly less than a Ferrari which was the only rival. Also Ferrari were hand made in aluminium by various coachbuilders, the Jags were just stamped steel from Coventry, made by blokes smoking pipes and having ale at lunchtime. I think it was what they represented that made them so iconic, they weren't hugely elitist - anyone could aspire to own one if they worked hard. And they were British. We'll not talk about their lack of racing success (the game had moved on) but these days they're pretty quick at Goodwood!

The SZ is not good looking, no question about that, but it is a period icon. It's also very fast!

One day I will own an E-Type, the SZ I can take it or leave it.
