Actaully just looked back at that SZ. Purely as a design exercise, I think it's amazing. Would love to turn up to an Auto Italia day in it, would be a star of the show :)

Yeah but 120mph in 1961 was still pretty good! It'd do 140mph I believe, but the 150mph press cars were famously tuned up so they could do it.

I am now browsing Pistonheads for one...Sarah wants an AC Cobra, this could be an alternative...

Dead right Lewis ... Its one of those cars that just steals the show even with more exotic and faster machines around it....

That's true, but they were hyped as the first production road car that could do 150 straight out of the show room. Yeah right!

AC Cobra all the time, much prefer them, Shelby 427 Cobra is the one if you have the funds.

Ha, we definitely DO NOT have the funds for a real one, would have to be a nicely made replica :) Would like a 289 or 427 though rather than a Rover V8 or Chevy powered one. Some have Pintos or Capri V6s in as well! To be avoided methinks...

This thread needs popcorn before you read it!

Some of you get just soooo emotional....whats going on discussing these German euroboxes on a Maserati forum?? :conf1:

Anyway, Scousegit got it right though...the C63 is better. :as002: Yet I'm not traditionally a Merc (or BMW) fan as I was always Alfa through and through - but you just can't deny that these two German saloons are pretty much the very best cars of their type out there for the money and it isnlt by accident that those of us who have owned both the M3 and C63 seem to prefer the Merc despite having no real brand-allegience in either direction - in this case Scousegit and I but also generally repeated elsewhere, even those on the BMW forums, a lot of whom have converted. In contrast, I've yet to find someone who's gone from a C63 to an M3. It is very simply the better everyday car to own.

Dem and Adam...when you two meet I'm going to come wading through the middle of you with my own handbag as referee! Should be fun, nothing like a good bit of banter between enthusiasts

Now, onto more exciting stuff. That Alfa - what a motor. I bet it's pretty sh!t to drive but just LOOOOOOK at it....so much presence.

I can't remember where these were pitched at in their day (was too young at the time ;)) - is todays modern equivalent the 8C or does that sit in a higher marketplace?

Very true there Andy, me and Dem will be having a good discussion about how much better the C63 is. It will definitly need a referee to make sure the toys stay in the pram.

Much higher IMO. Lots more power, much higher performance and much more desirable.

i would love a spin an M3, but i would probably wet myself if i went in the Merc, the noise i love.

I might try and make the italian car day at the ace.
