Autumn factory tour

Some of you may or may not have known that the reason I did not make the MC trip is that I was supposed to be holding on to do a delayed factory tour at the same time.

That has now collapsed so I am suggesting the forum organises its own trip, and invite the other guys to come with us.

It would be a 6 day tour leaving on a Tuesday first light.:

Monday: stay at travel lodge near Dover
Tuesday: 7am ferry, head to Stelvios and stay night 1
Wednesday: drive the 'pass' en route to Modena and stay night 2
Thursday: Maserati factory tour pm stay night 3
Friday: Ferrari factory tour pm stay night 4
Saturday: depart Modena en route for 'The Ring' and stay night 5
Sunday: head for Callais for return ferry 3pm

Now this was originally an all boys trip and suggest we pair up as the fuel will be fairly heavy, circa £1k. I will be doing so with EnzoMC (if your still up for it)

If however, you wish to bring your partners, then that is up for discussion. I personally don't have a strong opinion either way, but a lads trip does appeal more.

Can I have a show of hands who are interested and wether you wish to fly solo, open to pairing up or would like to bring the other half.

Target priced, based upon 2 sharing, including meals, fuel and hotels: £1k per head.

A show of hands:

My hand is raised, subject to it being in my time off work :)

I'll be driving, if someone wants to pax with me, that's up to them, happy to drive/pay alone though. I like using petrol ;)

620hp of Aston magic needs to be introduced to Stelvio and the 'Ring.

I am basing pairing up, and the fact that you are paying half the fuel, that the co pilot will be sharing the driving. I don't think I will extend that to the ring though, but we will see nearer the time.

The first leg from Callais to Stelvios, is about 12 hrs driving plus stops, so it would be suicide for one driver to do this.

We will be taking the Autobarn, so no speed restrictions so cruising at 120 is possible, but having never used the Autobarn, I hear that they are all dual carriageways and very busy so high speed cruising might not be possible.

Yep defo up for this, with or without a co-driver. A mate of mine had just bought himself an AMV8 and I'm sure he'd be up for it too.

By Autobahn you mean the German highway? Drove last year from south to north and back, there are limits of 110/120 KM/H, and only a few spaces without a limit. As years go on, they are not so open in driving as fast as you can.

Watch out for Goodwood Revival, nothing would make me miss that!

Enzo and I are now a team for this, subject to dates working out :)

I did this trip last year with a friend, i suggest refueling in Luxembourg as it's around 30c cheaper and it's not far off the route from the Nurburgring. If I'm still in the country (see a previous thread) then I'm up for the trip. You HAVE to do (it should be the law here) to do the Pannini Museum. It's well worth the entrance fee (it's free but you will end up buying cheese and olive oil!).

Anymore advice feel free to ask!

After the end of the MC weekend, i think it's about time to start organising this trip???

There are two issues for me:
1)Possible road trip with the saab forum in August for Luxemburg, so i have to choose one

2) End of August until middle of September are out of discussion, due to job needs

What is the Ring? Nurbungring??

There are some beautiful places to stay in Austria, first of all Salzburg/Vienna, but also villages in the Alps, just after Italy, like Seefeld, Innsbruck etc.

Let the Monaco guys return, i'm sure some of them would love to do it, as we discussed about a possible trip in the taxi bringing us back from the casino at 2am, after tons of alcohol... :)

Nikos, it will be later in the year or upon take up maybe spring 2013.

The Ring, yes, you have that one right.

I am up for what ever route is the most scenic but we will have to crack on the Autobarns too as time will be against us.

I see it as a Monday to Sunday event, 2 days to get down to Stelvio, then do the factory tours on days 3 and 4, chill day 5 then back to the Ring on day 6 to return home on day 7.

Sunday: Collect at travel tavern in Dover
Monday: Early Eurostar and head for Strasbourg or similar mid point
Tuesday: Head for Stelvio
Wednesday: Early start to drive the 'Pass' head for Modena for PM Ferrari Factory Tour
Thursday: PM Maserati Factory Tour
Friday: Chill day
Saturday: Early start, head for the 'Ring'
Sunday: Head back to Blighty

Matt, it'll be the usual Stelvio thing with the snow, so if we are seriously visiting the Stelvio, we have to choose the right period.

But, it's a bit early to organise things!

IMHO these things need to be organised early otherwise they're left all up in the air until the last minute.
Matt, my advice - get a bit of feedback, make a decision and stick to it.

My 2p: Rather than a chill day, how about St Agata for the Lambo factory? Only 30 mins from Modena...

Im not sure if this would be of any interest, I WAS doing this on the Motorbike in June starting in Geneva and then:-

Grand St Bernadino Pass (Italian Job)
Furka Pass VIA Gloschenen (Gotthard Pass)
Furka Pass
San Bernadino Pass (mixed roads)
Julier Pass
Majola Pass
Fluela Pass
Foscagno Pass
Stelvio
on to Cortina for the best roads ive seen
Then Maranello (ferrari) - Modena (Maserati) and back up through France to Mullhouse and visit the Schlumpf Museum.

Its 1500 miles (excluding getting there) and i was thinking of 9 days with 2 weekends. I have maps done with roads, places to see and planned hotels etc - if anyone wants a copy (ive got it on Excel)

I think it will be early Sept now and in the GTS probably with a friend driving the 360 as i wimped out of the bike trip!
