FCA can do it when they make the effort ( and spend the money). The Giulia Quad is best in class, as is now the Stelvio Quad, which beat the Macan S in a UK mag test (which means it must have been way way better)!
True however the interior quality in the Guilia isn't very good at all and actually stopped me from ordering one as a new daily. It's a massive identity crisis from both brands, and perhaps some greed from Ferrari that's fed all this.
The Ferrari California should be a Maserati.
The Quadrofoglio engine should be in the Levante and Ghibli.
The California engine should be in a new Maserati GT or Alfieri sports cars. Or perhaps both.
The Stelvio and Guilia are nice but Alfa need to bring out new, better quality entry cars and bin the Mito and Guilietta which are past
their sell by dates and not valued by the marketplace, hence not selling any more. The 4C is great but needs more development money
spent on it and the price lowered.
The QP should stay and be a pinnacle of classic design and quality, without the requirement to tie up with stuffy brands like
Salvatore Ferragamo. Maserati shouldn't need any other brand to send out it's message of style and quality. Should be the other way
around. It need to go to Pininfarina for new design and to have everything needed in terms of gadgets and safety to take on the Germans.
The brand positioning was already there, they've just messed up the natural order of things.
Maserati - fast, stylish, understated, for the discerning individual who wants quality without shouting about it. - Le Mans, trofeo/blancpain racing, polo, America's Cup
Alfa - fantastic Italian sports cars with flair, affordable for all and with high end models to aspire to. - Touring cars, privateers and factory, maybe rallying, Italian football sponsors, bit of F1 branding here and there
Ferrari - pretty much doing it right - F1, big time brand positioning, stock market placement
