Thanks all

I have told her that she could buy a V8 for peanuts but she will not be swayed!

What about wiggle room on the car advertised for £4990? realistically what coud be knocked off?

I think with the S type R v8 Jag you could probably knock off 500 pounds if you go see it. Its looks like a fun cheap car with 400hp and looks cosmetically in nice condition.

I don’t think you are setting your sights high enough. Although it is a bit leggy at 115,000,000 miles.

i have never owned a Ford but i did have a hired 2015 model for holiday and over 3 weeks the car was impressive, 1.0 ecoboost is a great engine and was getting 50mpg fully loaded 5 passengers everywhere.

Its a class leader, i do like the twinair 500 aswel though

I would imagine £500 with a hard haggle but as has been said, they are desirable and hold value. I reckon you could get the same car privately for less than 4.

you can negotiate that price easily, its coming up to a difficult time of year for them and they will have no sales targets for December as they will literally be happy with any sales that month just like estate agents.
Aim for £500 but thats optimistic £300 should be the minimum....if its cheap compared to everyone else though.......

Would you not consider leasing her a car? i can get her a brand new seat ibiza or vw polo for £160 pm over 24 months with one month deposit......8k miles a year

Hi Dem
Thanks for the useful feedback

Have discussed leasing but she feels the same as me, that in the end you don't have anything. She's not after the latest and greatest either

160 a month plus what the downpayment is comes to £4K which is 80% of the car she's looking at.

I do understand why it's a viable option for some, but it seems a bit like pay day loans, you'll never stop paying for your car!

Hi
Just like Doohickey my daughter has a 64 plate Fiesta but again the 999cc eco boost engine (125bhp) and it's great. However we did agonise over whether to go for the cheaper (to buy) 1.25 engine when she bought it nearly 2 years ago as there are quite a lot of reports of failures of the eco boost engines mainly due to coolant loss. Also the cam belt running in oil didn't appeal to my DIY servicing mind but it lasts 10 years!!
So the 1.25 engine seems to be well proved with no major issues - The down side is it costs a bit more in fuel and road tax compared to the eco boost.- She pays zero road tax. The site below will give you all the information on servicing etc if you have the VIN number

By the way my daughter had a yearly service at her Ford dealer after about a year that cost £225 for oil/oil filter/air filter and sump plug. Last weekend I did a service for her which included oil/oil filter/sump plug/pollen filter and a brake fluid change - cost £50 in parts using Shell Helix Ultra 5W-20 oil. What impressed me was all the bleed nipples opened easily.

Have been to see the said Fiesta and put a deposit on it. Delivery Friday.
On a less positive note currently sitting in an AA lorry cab with the smoker on the back, having been rear ended on the A40 just before the M40. So Miss Dr Eb a bit of a gibbering wreck for a while, having now experienced assaults in both ends in the last 4 days. No injuries but the Honda Jazz looked pretty caved in. Low loader pic to follow.
Could've taken the Mas but didn't which is a blessing.
