Probably best to drill and ease them out with a stud extractor. For me, helicoils as a last resort.

Duncan, Alfa font of all knowledge, says to cut a 1mm slice in the flange up to the stud, this releases the pressure then they come out easy. They just use a regular nut and bolt instead of the studs.

Ill give that a go first.

I seem to have just put an offer in on something with the same heart

Yes, thats more like it. You only see a small part of the engine, the bit between the V and under the inlet pipes and fuel rails is the bit that needs a good clean. Ill probably blow over the Silver King paint also. the plenum and front bank cover are going through the dishwasher tomorrow when the missus goes out, DONT TELL HER, SHE WILL FLIP!!!!

I also have one of those steam buggy things with a brush on the end, they always work a tread on the hard to get to bits as does a rotary wire brush.

Have 2 sheared manifold down pipe studs so that will take up a load of time I recon.

Is that to the flange above the primary cat Matt?

These are as easy to drill out and replace with a nut and bolt, use a binks nut similar not a nylock so it doesn't shake loose or melt nylon :)

If it is the manifold to head; just wind the rest of the stud out and replace with a bolt (cut a slot in the remaining stud to remove and apply heat).

Downpipe flange yes, not the head.

Wasn't looking for one but as with the Giulietta if one of the best come up it would be silly to let it go. It would cost a lot to get one to the condition this one is in as Simon is as OCD with his cars as anyone I have met.

I know what you mean, if i could afford it i would have driven down there by now ;) Love Simon's cars, jealous of his fleet :) Wasn't it the GT that appeared on Fifth gear last year?
