Exactly. I'd like an EV (because I'm intrigued by them and my inner geek fancies giving one a try for a bit) but simply don't need one. I could do with a bigger car but to be honest the usage a car gets for us is minimal so it would be an indulgence. I was looking recently at a new work project which would have involved a weekly commute of maybe 240 miles. An EV would have been perfect for that... until we wanted to go further afield one weekend. A stop at a service station on the M4 on the way back from the holy union of Stevie and Skye last weekend showed us 2 charge points (taken) and a facking great big petrol forecourt that I filled up in and was on my way in 5 minutes flat.I don’t really think that does sum up every thread on EVs on this forum. There are many of us (me included) who have been genuinely considering buying one, but trying to understand what the commitment would mean and is now the right time.
Factored into that decision, for a few of us, is the true environmental impact of staying with our ICE cars or adding or replacing with an EV. For others the financial, aesthetic and driving pleasure trade offs.
Clearly the answers to those questions are moving and changing all the time so you’d expect the thread to run and evolve.
For now, I'll wait for the future to catch up with the present but remain a keen observer.
(Time for an AI thread..? )
