Llandow 26th April 2013

Date added - FRIDAY APRIL 26TH

Its that time again to see if anyone will be interested in a track day at Llandow this year and when..........I've contacted Llandow and asked for a Friday in March/April/May. Please put down the month you may be interested in.......I know there are a few things going on so will try and keep away from other events.......

Thanks Andy.

Rock on - count me in. No great preference as to month, though later might come with better weather.

Andy - let me know if I can help at all with arrangements - you do a great job on these but if you can share the effort out then please do.

Hi guys....I've never been before so would be grateful if someone could giveme a bit of a lowdown on Llandlow and what to expect, how slippery, how close do cars get, very tyre heavy etc. It just looks like long straights with som chicanes that can be avoided.

Thanks

Oh and i would prefer to avoid May, but don't let that hold you back (especially as Cobratwin is helping me out at the moment, so I am likely to owe him one!)

I can answer some of those - in order:

what to expect: lots of fun! A chance to really open up the car and see what it can do in terms of acceleration, breaking and cornering. You can take things as fast or slow as you like - pushing yourself just a little or really hooning it with the traction control off (not sure whether they frown on full powerslides - but I've never seen much of that with the Maz drivers there).

how slippery: I've been in dry and 'a little damp' conditions and grip was good on both - so not very slippery I'd say.

how close: not at all! There is no overtaking except on the straights and then only when the car in front indicates to say they know you're coming and are letting you past - it's not a race. So you have no worries on a corner about looking out for other cars - they'll be keeping a respectful distance. The track never gets that crowded - worst case is sometimes a slower driver forgets to check his mirrors, doesn't see you, and you sit behind him for a while. But if that happens you can come off the track for a minute and rejoin later in front of him. I've always found this a very safe track overall - particularly as it's full of forum members also driving their precious motors.

tyres: I guess that depends on how you drive it. My take is that a 4200 is a GT not a sports car - indeed the odd Elise we see there is sooo much quicker in the corners (but no competition on the straights of course!). So I don't push the car to it's limits at all. Also I know if I break it then I'm stuck in Wales with no way to get home - now that's a scary though! So for me tyre wear is ok. Others like to go on tyres which are near the limit - i.e. they'll be replacing them very soon anyway so who cares about the wear.

Definitely worth coming - I've done two of these and they're great fun. Not the longest track in the world, but easily enough to keep most non-pro drivers amused and enjoying the lack of speed limits and the lovely noises you get on the overrun when coming into the slower corners.

Cheers,
Ben.

done it a couple times and i drive my car hard , so i need to replace the tyres half way though a session! lol

it is Great fun but dont worry if u do break down i live quite close to the track, so just a quick tow down the road and u can safely tuck the car up on my drive and we can fix it. or call a tow truck out.

if needs must and we cant do May then ill get back to the uk :) so dont worry to much about me.

I'm in as well Andy,
but maybe I have to wait for the end of year one!
April and May are already pretty car filled for me...and March is a little early.
I will watch from the sidelines for now and see how we go,
Thanks,
Enzo.
