I spotted a Fuji Bianco (very appropriate) QPV and Nero GT near Fukuoka (Japan). Strangely enough there are a lot of LHD exotics in Japan as it is deemed a status symbol. Also spotted a pair of wildly painted Aventadors bumbling along at 60km/h - police are very strict and anal there so there is nearly 0 opportunity to let them out properly. Sad…
It is bizarre. My cousin lived there for 7 years and was thinking of buying a Ferrari to bring back (tax free). The importer wanted cash up front to order a RHD car as it would be unsaleable if he did not take delivery!
Originally many thought this was a preference for original design (Italian exotica were designed LHD so that's how it should be!) but this theory fails when you see how many LHD Astons, Bentleys and RR they have. Virtually all Maserati are LHD, which is a shame as the Japanese are meticulous with servicing and they have zero rust underneath. The line between LHD cool and RHD practicality blurs as you come down from exotic to sports versions. RS/M/AMG are virtually all LHD but most S8/S6/S4 are RHD. Merc S500s are mostly RHD but S600s are mostly LHD. Alfa GTVs are 50/50. As are V12 Jags. They do make great imports though, especially as the Yen is so weak.
