It can be a hit and miss on the Trident front, Davy.
In the past I have attended (as a fixture, in different locations, but always about the same date) and have been alone. Then one year I was one of eight! Last year it was just me & Bob (I think). Although it's starting to look like a groundswell of interest now for this year!!
I've got to recount this story from last year- I've been keeping this for months!
I pull up at the event and am told to reverse in next to Bob. As I often do, after a significant drive, I turn on my radiator fans and lift the bonnet with the engine running for a few moments to assist cooling before turn-off. A guy wearing a cap and dark glasses with two enormous cameras round his neck comes up to me;
"ooh, that's a nice engine" he says
"thanks!" I reply
"I've got a great engine in my car- I've never had to have it rebuilt"
"really? what do you drive yourself?" I say
"I've got an Astra- I've had it 15 years now; I've got two in fact, one is the Bertone bodied soft top version"
"Gosh!, Two of them! Ah, Bertone- that'll be the valuable one, Italian build, eh?!" I say
"yes, it's in great nick- hardly any rust at all. And my other one- what an engine- a 1.4 you know? Doesn't complain at all when I tow my caravan with it- some people use really underpowered cars to tow caravans but I find it's not a problem"
"really?!" I say (now a bit lost) The conversation continues for almost 5 minutes in the form of a monologue from him about caravans and then he says;
"Anyway- How long have you had your Alfa Romeo?"
