Not to put a fly in the QP ointment but a very good 166 3.2 is up for grabs at the moment. £8k but it’s had a **** of a lot of work done.
nice for what they are (especially with a Busso) but incomparable to a QPV (front/mid Ferrari engine £100k RWD low volume Maserati vs mass produced FWD Chroma/Saab 9000 platform based £30k car?). They may have ended up at similar value to buy but I don't see them as in the same class.

I get it; I know that First Class is 5x Economy ticket but compared to Net Jets it is a bargain....I can see where you are coming from but....

I guess my argument is that for £8k you’re going to be buying the best 166 there is (you’d hope) whereas an £8k QPV... is less likely to be the best there is, putting it mildly.
Then there’s the running of them. Neither is particularly cheap nor simple, but the Maserati is on a whole different level.

Then again I saw this at the forthcoming Anglia Car Auctions sale and had a moment of ‘what’s the worst that could happen?’

And it is a Sport GT, which according to Mr Maserati (RG) is the one to have - better handling and faster changes and still the dry sump engine and rear transmission. A purist QPV. I guess like any QPV buy, an inspection is essential or you could be looking at £10k to put it right. Rusty subframe has to be the first big question? Does the history suggest recent brakes/suspension?

Sadly it’s an auction so chances to get it on a ramp are unlikely, not that I have the liquidity to purchase at the moment.

At 30k miles a year, I imagine most v8/v12 cars would incur some massive costs!

But when you had your FF I imagine you had the 7 year service pack, so besides depreciation, fuel, and insurance I can't imagine the costs are that much higher relative to a 4.7 Maserati?

For comparison sake over the 4 years I've owned my QP the average spend each year (ex-Insurance, Fuel and Depreciation) has been c.£2-3k. Last year (2019) spent almost £7k on my QP keeping it tip top (granted that included a few non essentials such as Apple Car Play upgrade, but doesn't include Insurance, Fuel or even depreciation).

Have only owned the Sport GT so relying on comments from folks I have met. Seems this car answered a few questions asked by initial wave of purchasers. Faster gear change being the main one. Few commented that steering wheel is meatier (thicker?) and interior 'smarter'. My own has the carbon option which does lift things. Any QP interior is already a special place so not really needed for me. The 20" wheels seem to help to looks. Something subtle done to noise emissions too, certainly has OEM X-pipe but possibly modified silencer?
The price of entry is warranted by the dry sump engine. The sheer lunacy of a cam kick at 5200 rpm still makes me properly laugh out loud. Only really feel and hear it to full effect with car empty, even one passenger blunts the effect. You will just have to take my word for it.
The Achilles heel is skyhook on all these cars, only Sport GTS had the non-active suspension. The ride on GTS is by far the most satisfying combination of compliance and control.

quite a spread of interesting cars at the next anglia auction, include five Maserati. One of my childhood favourites too - only room for three people too.

I had a 166 3.2 a good few years ago, in fact it was the exact one used in a fifth gear episode and a feature in autoitalia magazine with a 164 and a 159 after I sold it.
Whilst not a quattroporte of course, it was still a lovely car, plus being a 3.2 it was also a manual, as they all were, I do love a manual sports saloon.
Also when I say all, they only sold about 40 in the the uk, so a very rare car, even more so than my QP GTS with about 60 sold!
