Speaker upgrade - Alpine

Hi! Im planning to do several improvements to my GS audio. Most probably the equipment by a Pioneer with motorised screen, dynamat and adding subwoofers back in the place prepared for that. I have some questions:
  1. Do you think the place for the subwoofers is ok or better to fit some 2 way speakers and a sub under the seat?
  2. Where to place dynamat? Just doors or also rear panels and in the place for subs?
  3. Even if I change the equipment will I need amplifier? One or two if I put also the subs?
I already have the front woofers and tweeters replaced by JBL gt7-6c and rears by Alpine sxe-5725s.
I would like to try with the Becker before changing but the ok button is not working and its being challenging to find someone to fix it. Without that I can use radio and cd charger but no navigation. It also has installed a Motorola t605 bluetooth receiver and it is supposed to be able to stream music but I think the aux input was not connected. I guess anyway better to have a new unit with Android auto, dab...What do you think?
Also the cd changer does not remember what was playing when restarting the car, is this normal or mine has an issue?
Thanks in advance for your comments!

Personally I find that if you disconnect the OEM rear shelf speakers the sound is better. As for Dynamat I put it around the seat of the rear quarter speakers and on the quarter panel beneath. I then repeated this for the front door speakers.

I used 2 ways in the rear quarters then woofer and separate tweeters in the front doors.

I would say yes to a separate amp/woofer under the seat or in the rear footwell. On a Spyder it mounts nicely to the rear bulkhead...something like this:

Thanks @conaero. I dont have anything now on the top of the rear seats. I would like to use the place thought for the subwoofers to be used for what it was intended or at least for other speakers, it would not be fair for Giugaro not to use it when it was designed so nicely:)

Have been pleasantly surprised by powered under-seat subwoofers. Do check on clearance though should you decide to go that way.
Someone here found last year that a Kenwood KSC-SW11 wouldn't fit under the seat without cutting the carpet. It was mounted elsewhere as a result.
The Kenwood has a 7cm depth, whereas the Renegade above is 8cm, although the Kenwood can be modified to fit. Not looked at any others but Alpine also have a 7cm deep option. Finally, by their nature, these types of subwoofer are not powerful enough to be mounted too far from earshot. Running two would help.

Hey, but why do you propose under the seat when there is a place planned for them in the back without compromising space for rear feet passengers? Do these sound better? Back maybe is possible to fit couple of 8" subs... Little bit tight, though

Hi, under-seat is just one option, hence, "should you decide to go that way".
Re: using the original space with a more capable speaker - my understanding is the parcel shelf is not sufficiently rigid.
It will vibrate even if Dynamat is used.

Ok, that can be an issue...Thanks for the advice. I will then ask the installer to check before ordering.
Looking for new equipment I have discover this. Looks good alternative at a really good price.

Hi again,
Checking the connectors these after market equipments are having compared to the Becker I was wondering which ones are needed to maintain and how. For instance, speed info I think is not needed if the gps is directly the phone as in the one I have shared, but what about the sensors for the reverse? How do you keep this sound still going through the speakers? Any other connection Im missing?

Speed info can be used to increase the volume of the audio as you go faster, probably quite important if your car has a loud exhaust. ;)

True :D. But how do you connect these to the after market equipments? Specially im worried about loosing the reverse sound...

The reverse is a separate buzzer located under the rear shelf and is not connected to the audio system.

GTS, but its the same part, just stuck to the side of the speaker mount:

All right, thanks for the info! so you dont loose the beeps but need to turn off volume manually if needed. Can be something else lost because of removing the Becker?

Hi, thanks to this thread and a few others on the forum I’m about to do this. I have a 2002 Spyder. Can you tell me exactly where you mean on the rear bulkhead? I was thinking just behind the drivers seat.

Also I’m think of just connecting it up to the feed to the rear speakers. Before I start pulling the carpets up do you happen to know the wiring route from the back of the NIT to the rear speakers?

I already have some replacement Focal front speakers on order, and looking forward to doing that in the next week or two.

Just to add I’ve just fitted the Focal ISS170 component speakers to my Spyder. I’m very pleased with them and they fit fine. I had to completely diassemble the tweeters and glue them to the original grills, but everything else was very straightforward.

Active subwoofer next, once I’ve figured out the wiring.

Anyone tried one of these? For £85 from Halfords it's almost worth it just to solve the phone cradle issue...

I'd give it a go but don't have a scooby about changing out the current Alpine unit in my GS.
