Track Day suggestions

Spa is a great track to drive, though limited run off in a few places. I'd be up for it depending on the date. Other benefit is there are some nice hotels to stay at nearby and Goldtrack go there so should be well organised. I would of thought Melindi may be willing to look at a group discount if enough people wanted to do it as well.

Exactly - I'd be looking to use Goldtrack to organise the track part for us - good call on talking directly to Melindi for a group booking.

Will probably pass a 105 test, but not a chance of a 90 or 88. Even a standard one won't pass that.
It's not an exact science, as external reflections can affect the reading, as will how much you p*ss-off the guy with the test meter... ;) If he's in a good mood and laughing with you, then the distance stick could be a bit longer than if you treat him/her like a piece of dirt. Inverse square law means every mm matters.
If you visit a track day to spectate, check it out etc, they will undoubtedly test your car for you free of charge if you ask them.

Thanks Drew.

I have never done a car trackday, Definitely appeals.

A Spa trip would be a tick off the list.

Prefer not August and not October as my little one is due 2nd October!

So September is best for me.

Is this your first kiddy ?

If so you may need to stop thinking you still have the ability to plan things for a while. Mine always seemed to time things perfectly for wrecking plans ! ;)

Yes.

That is exactly what everyone has been telling me. I refuse to believe it - but I think I am just kidding myself.

Drew,

PM me if you would like me to speak to Melindi (don't know how well you know Callum and Melindi!?)

Regards,

Robin

I would be interested if we can get a track day again this year. Hopefully I can get somebody to cover for me depending on when it is.

Has the trackway in Wales gone by the board this year ? I had it pencilled in for sometime in October, I have got my mate lined as he is a track driving instructor but will need to confirm a date. I am in not overly concerned about which circuit as they all have something to teach you although I don't like airfield circuits due to the road rash you tend to collect.

Bedford is quite good although difficult to read as it is very flat

I've done Spa many years ago. Amazing. The undulations are immense and you don't understand this watching the F1.

I'd be up for Spa next year. Not been there which for me is quite something as I've been to most European tracks.

I know i don't have the car yet but out of curiosity on an average track day how much abuse are brakes and tyres on a GT likely to take, assuming neither are new when arriving on track is it likely to need to visit the workshop the following day?

Just noticed no-one has answered this for you.

As with almost everything in life, it depends.

Depends on the track, how smooth you are as a driver, how committed you are as a driver, how new the tyres are, what compound brake pads you have...
If you keep the sessions reasonably short, allow the car to cool (brakes and tyres mostly), then it will survive very nicely. Don't turn up with brand new tyres as they will get destroyed. Standard road pads aren't up to the job on track, and that will become apparent very quickly. I have EBC Yellowstuff in my QP, and while they noticeably aren't as good as the standard pads from cold, they still work well enough to not cause brown trouser moments on the road, but I had no brake fade at all last weekend - it's heavier than a GT... Visible wear on the (nearly new, say 1000 miles) pads when I swapped the wheels back from the track set to road set was essentially nil.

Check the date code on your tyres, if they are a few years old they may look ok with plenty tread, but once "abused" they can crack near where the blocks meat the main body of the tyre.

Having watched it again today on F1 Im up for spa in October. My mate did it last year in his stupid 450bhp legacy which has just blown up but I watched his video passing an Audi A8 which was awesome.
