Hi,

At least a couple of SMers are interested in attending the Wilton House Classic and Supercar day on 4th August and I want to see if there are enough of us that it's worth investigating some a group entry / allocated "display" area. This is what the organisers have to say about it:

Set in the grounds of one of England’s finest stately homes and hosted by Lord Pembroke, a part time racing driver with a passion for all things motoring, this is our fifth annual car show for enthusiasts, established and run by enthusiasts.

We are a small but devoted team and have spent the past five years developing a show to cater for those who prefer a more relaxed environment in which to explore and experience some of the world’s most iconic cars.

Two of England’s most legendary manufacturers, Aston Martin and Mclaren, will be celebrated on August 4th with displays of historic importance, the confidential details of which will be announced nearer the time. Please check the site for regular news updates.

In addition to the entertainment seen in previous years including live music, air displays, parade ground and carefully selected food outlets and trade stands, we will have a far greater area this year for entertaining families surrounding our spectacular adventure playground.

More details here www.wiltonclassicsupercar.co.uk and a link to the SM thread on the previous event here www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/showthread.php/10245-Wilton-Supercar-Morning.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll investigate. Wilton House is way down south, somewhere near Salisbury. The day starts at 9am so for anyone travelling from further afield it sounds like an overnight the night before (or a bloody early start).

Just received this reply from the Wilton House organisers:

Thank you for your interest in WCS 2013. The criteria is not set in stone and there will always be exceptions, however I typically work along the following guidelines:

3 seats, or fewer
£120,000, or more, at some stage of the car's existence
180mph or higher top speed

I'm afraid to say that while we do invite a few 'GT' style cars along each year, we already have more than enough on this occasion. I do hope you'll still bring the Maserati along for the show regardless. The popular website 'Pistonheads.com' has a section at the event where its members bring their cars to show, which might be worth considering? Membership is free, and there are 40 spaces (out of 700) still remaining: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=27349

So I fear that us humble Maserati drivers are excluded on the basis of inadequate price or too many seats. Or both those things.

I've registed for the PH car-park.

It's made me feel wholly inadequate, Andy. Worthless, almost.

Nonetheless, still looks like a good day out. Frankly if the organisers won't accomodate our fine beasties then I can only imagine they must have some seriously exotic vehicles to drool over. So unless Mrs N books a holiday I'll still aim to drag the fam down for a day out. If I can tempt them with a night in a pub and a slap-up meal they should be up for it.

I asked the same question when the event first started a few years ago and got a similar answer, although the 3 seat £120k 'guidelines' seem to be a recent development and somewhat arbitrary. The event has grown significantly with an increasing number of top end cars, so maybe there's a case for 'junior supercars', perhaps based on performance figures, although I suspect that the organisers wouldn't want the additional hassle. It's still a good bash though.

It certainly looks pretty good, Phil. I'm planning on ambling along anyway. Let's face it, if they're awash with ultra-rare exotica (new and classic) then our cars won't quite cut the mustard. But only just.

I suspect they've allowed three seats so the Maclaren F1 isn't turned away by some admin assistant!

Shame though as I really feel many people really do like to admire the Maserati mark.

I'll be there still...

Adam

I'm lucky in that I live close enough to check the weather and decide on the day, but I've been most years and watched it grow. With any luck I might have a trident to take once again.

They can't refuse me Robert; I'm a Moonraker (Wiltshire born you see) so I can claim right of passage over blow-ins with the flash stuff.

To be serious, though, the Earl of Pembroke who owns Wilton House is a dedicated car nut who runs various cars including a Veyron and has raced a fair bit. At a previous event he walked up to a friend of mine and asked what he thought of it, what improvements could be made, etc so he's very hands on and apparently a nice bloke to boot. It is a good event and always on my calendar.

Perhaps a more formal approach from the forum would pay dividends for next year, assuming that sufficient numbers and examples of the marque could be guaranteed. I'm sure that a good display could be arranged.

Name down on the pistonheads site , I went a couple of years ago with a few members from PH had a little convoy down from the berks area and had a great day and the cars just blow your mind . You will never see so many rare or exotica in one place .

I'm going, probably in the QP. There's no point in going in the Cup - it's too rare and exotic to fit the criteria. Ironically they invited me to attend in my 6.0 lt Diablo a few years back but i couldn't make it - and now that I've got two kids I can't go in anything that has less than 4 seats. It's as if they don't want families to come - which is weired given that Wilton House has a great playground for the little people.

Hi everyone, my name is Jay Broom and I am the co-founder of WCS. I wrote the email reply to the OP that is being re-quoted on this thread.

I wanted to join up and make things a little bit clearer for everyone, just so there'll be no misunderstanding or animosity. Like every red-blooded petrolhead, I adore Maseratis. If I may address every single Maserati owner on this thread, nay this site: you are welcome and encouraged to bring your wonderful cars to Wilton Classic and Supercars.

My role as co-founder is to create the show's content, and I am solely responsible for what goes in the supercar display. Unfortunately, as the event has grown I have had to become more and more picky about what cars are included in the supercar parade, which means inevitably I have to draw a line somewhere. The arbitrary guidelines (3 seats or fewer, £120k+, 180mph+) are used by me to form a general reasoning on what constitutes a supercar; however, it goes without saying that Maserati models are significantly interesting enough to be featured in some way at this kind of show. To that end I have already included a number of recent Maserati models in the supercar line up so as not to ignore the marque but even within this consideration it's the 'Gran Turismo MC Stradale' I'd be looking for.

What I absolutely would be willing to do, if there's sufficient interest and the members of this forum would like to organise it, is look to accommodate a specific Maserati owners section on site?

Best regards,
Jay

(Off topic, but we also run a monthly 'breakfast club' style meet called the Wilton Wake Up. We've a convertible themed one in July and a GT themed one in August, should you also wish to come down for a more informal meeting and have a chat? http://www.wiltonclassicandsupercars.co.uk/wake-up-events/)
