Spa Track Day 2016

Since there's some interest gaining ground in a track day at Spa next year, I think a separate thread is required :)

People who have expressed an interest:

  1. Drewf
  2. Morebeans
  3. MAF260
  4. Trev Latter
  5. highlander
  6. Team GCR
  7. steamer
  8. Doohickey
  9. hoyin
  10. Zep
  11. D Walker
  12. Midlifecrisis

Let's have a show of interest please, and consider this trip will almost certainly be worth extending into a bit of a bigger European trip.

Rough costs will be:

Track day at Spa - £400
Tunnel/Ferry - £100
Hotels - £100 per room per night, say. Well, mine will be at least that anyway - if you want to use Formule1, then go ahead...
Meals/drinks - £50 per day
Fuel - maybe £500? from Calais?
Insurance (track) - £150
Insurance (breakdown) - £70

...making it a minimum budget of £1500, with £900 of that being directly on the track & fuel spend.

Due to the long distance from home, breakdown insurance will certainly be required. Might be useful to have someone drive a support van with spare wheels, tyres, brake pads, oil, tools etc. We will all need to pay for that if we run that option, but could be one of us if a couple of people are prepared to share a track car.

With the above budget in mind, can we have a show of GENUINE interest for a Spa day next year, let's say in July/August/September to give us the best chance of decent weather. We can then talk to the track day companies & hotels about sorting a group discount.

Having to choose between sex or going flat out on Eau Rouge would be difficult. Luckily I've done both.

It would probably need to be in September for me. Might also be worth thinking about the ferry from Hull for some of us more northerly based travellers. It will be a bit more expensive (probably around £500 including car, cabin and food) and add some time but may be better than schlepping down to Dover.

Depending on dates, definitely. Early or late September would be preferable, but I guess it depends what's available at the track. The one date that's an absolute no-no is 15 September. A boys and toys trip on our wedding anniversary wouldn't go down well at all!

Good point - there's no reason that everyone has to use the Channel crossing. We can easily meet up further into the trip, as suits.

Great Stuff Drew - As far as I am aware there is nothing in the diary for those months.

If it's combined with a mini Euro trip all the better!!

I shall watch this thread with interest. If plans come to fruition then I was looking to get another Trident in November 2016, but who knows , I may manage earlier. If this is the case I can think of no better way to give it a shakedown.

Could do the ring on the way as well.

I will be watching from the side on this particular occasion.

Yes, we'll be doing Hull or Newcastle also to Zeebrugge or Amsterdam. I get a nosebleed south of Manchester.

Drew - Budget is £65K and we'll see what's in the garage then.....Matt has a z4mc and races a TVR 3000M which we could also bring. I'll talk to him, maybe we'll trailer that and do it properly.

I'm in!
It's only a 2 hour drive from where I live.
Do you get track insurance in the UK or at the track itself?
