I don’t think an Albon move to Williams would be on if he was still anywhere near a contract with the Red Bull academy. Similarly, Bottas to Alfa has probably been done under his own steam as Toto would have little to say about him going into a Ferrari engined car. The chances of Alfa using a Merc PU are slim to non-existent in my view.

My understanding is that unless Albon's Red Bull backing prevents him getting a drive he will remain a Red Bull contracted driver and Red Bull will be assisting (ie paying) for him to drive as they rate him highly enough to want to bring him back in the future.

IMHO Alfa are of course not going to use a Mercedes PU, but that will not stop Toto helping to pace Bottas in the best possible car for next year if
he isn't in the Mercedes, don't forget Toto is part of his management team and has been since the Wiliams days.

True enough. It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

Only the last few years, since watching drive to survive, I've started to enjoy the politics of it all. Really looking forward to the next one, to see what's actually being said out of the public eye right now.
It's a shame they can't can't show it along side an F1 season, would make it much more exciting!

Its all BS though...!
Beyond the disparities of money; who has it, where it comes from; any notion of
ta;ent + hardwork = results is wasted....!
Which is why the media "owns" the rights to watch, and controls the narrative through it's various , paid up platforms...
Its obvious that selling is the game, bulls1t the aim..Non stories, bitching and moaning.
It demeans the whole thing really. Id prefer not to know in some ways....At least Id like to not feel quite so "manipulated" !
Who enjoyed seeing Coulthard's ar5e yesterday..? They spend so much time spinning their yarns..yawn.
Shut up and race !

There is nothing between the top two but on a circuit where overtaking is difficult it was all down to qualify and the start.

What the feck were mere up to pitting Bottas at the end, open up all sorts of risks and it nearly went wrong when he went and put in a fastest lap

Other than the branding it’s not really changed. It’s still gravity fed in racing where they refuel and was in F1 till it stopped.
What's changed is the spectacle of F1 which is now heavily sanitised. Fuel stops added another dimension, and imho they should remove driver/pit comms and restrict car telemetry during the race so we can see who the better drivers really are.

Not a bad idea in principle but these hybrid era cars are so complicated that all we will see is cars breaking down pointlessly.

It's not just in F1 either - the majority of top category motorsports have driver coaching from the pit wall - best drivers in the world combined with the best teams in a time of instant on demand information.

The best drivers in the world never used to have such luxuries and they still won championships. If drivers can't win without live coaching, and if cars are too sensitive to run without constant adjustment, I would argue that is sufficient justification for a radical rethink; either the teams go retrograde, or raise their game, to establish a reliable baseline that doesn't need constant inputs for either the car or driver.

Regardless of the type of sport, 'touchline intervention' during a competition defeats the object of competing in the first place. And as for telling drivers to slow down.......

Indeed. It seems that the bosses in modern F1 crave the limelight even more than the drivers.

Mate of mine is a young driver coach taking young karters to the next level, he spends more time with them on telemetry, in race audio and media comms than he does with driving skills - the sport has changed

I guess so they could pull HAM in for fastest lap and not have to swap them round in the process?
