I will start by admitting I Googled ad hominem. But basically someone believes the pandemic started as an accident in a laboratory, some one else on here agrees with that possibility, but another on here strongly disagrees, that should really be the end of it. Or, does the other person who disagrees have a more Logical explanation as to the cause. If so please put it forward and I am sure it can be debated. But not by me, I do not really understand big words.

Short answer is yes.

Person A makes a claim
Person B makes a counter claim with evidence
Person A claims that this is un reasonable without addressing any of the evidence.
Person B points out that none of the evidence has been addressed
Person A resorts to ad hominem attacks.

Really it is a play book

Yes it could end at point 2. But it never ever does.

Time and time again thoughout human history our species has been devastated by new diseases yet somehow when it happens now “it has to have been made in a Chinese lab because any other reason is impossible”. I’m surprised Samuel Pepys didn’t have a bit of a rant about those exotic far easterners in his diary or Moses mention them in the Old Testament

But isn't everything made in China these days?

The thing I find really funny about this is that if they do start to import it, you don’t have to buy it. Last time I bought a chicken at Tesco it was 3.99 ready basted in a cooking tray. It can’t get much cheaper.
As far as I am aware, the US introduced an exemption for declaring the origins of their produce, the continuance of which will almost certainly will be part of a trade deal. If you buy anything with chicken in it, you might not know where it's from. KFC anyone?

Frankly serves you right for buying KFC. Or any mass produced fast food ****.

I was trying to work out when I last had a McDonalds. I give up having worked out it was over 20 years ago.

I don't buy any KFC or McDonalds either. It was only an example off the top of my head how it is not always possible to know where the food you buy is from, unless of course you always cook everything from scratch and never go to restaurants.

Likewise for me it's been a while, I've only been in to a muckDonalds to use the loo. What saddens me, is that some parents use it as a treat or worse a 'default meal'. It also sadder to see them open on Christmas day.

Sorry, didn't mean you specifically. Just in general, and no, you're correct it's not. However, the moment you're buying 'All you can eat for £12.95' there's going to be a quality sacrifice.

I kind of saw it as a kind of compliment as well Mark. We could clearly benefit from someone like you in govt. Ever seriously though about it?

You have that never let it go debate until they wither style that would do really well in politics I would suggest. Whether you would be fired a few times no question but no different to any other politician. They always keep coming back and finding another role.

Thanks Dean and @Silvercat
Unfortunately there is little room in politics for real debate, and politicians are subjected to such abuse (and so poorly paid) that there is very little incentive to do it unless you have a real vocation or you are a nutcase. And before you go there....

I wish there was space for this kind of politics, but the press and the public just don't seem to value it.

Bear in mind Trump attacked McCain's character and they were meant to be on the 'same side'.

McCain is the kind of politician who I know I did not share ideology with but whom I could always respect. Public service is rarely valued.

And whilst I abhor Trump's politics and behaviour, it does not help that the press misrepresent him.

I have looked hard at both the clip featured in the report and searched for extended footage elsewhere and whilst the comments are crass in my opinion he is referring to equality before law enforcement made during a press briefing on the unemployent figures. It is wrong to headline that Trump is of the view that George Floyd would be happy to see those figures.

It is increasingly hard to believe what is reported regardless of source or political bias of that outlet.

Maybe it always thus and we were more ignorant of such misrepresentation.

MacPiss: The visiting of a Macdonalds burger chain purely for the purpose of using the toilet. See also: Macshit

MacPiss with lies: As above, but upon being apprehended by the staff who tell it’s for the use of customers only, one informs said staff you will order after you have visited their lavatory
