Energy crisis

Pardon my being blissfully ignorant of social norms on your side of the pond and all, but… is there some sort of social stigma to having PV panels on the roof?
I’ve got a 32 panel 9.6 kW array and haven’t paid electrics in three years. Here, panels get you an easy $10,000 min markup on your house price when selling, no matter the age.
From the sentiments above it seems people in the UK consider PV panels undesirable?

You see in the UK.
if it makes your house look ugly then it’s a no no.
Mine are on the back where no one can see them.
Return is circa £800 a year. So my net energy usage is about £200 a year.
Investigating what else I can do to get to zero.

I think it depends. I have a 4kw system (the max size at the time for full rebate) on a relatively small section of my roof which is well hidden from view which, thankfully, faces south. I have wondered about adding some on the ground as I have an area where they would not be too obvious. Then I could do powerbank etc for when I get electric cars.

Yes, the OPEC crisis, I remember it well - growing up in the Netherlands, you were not allowed to drive on Sundays...I can remember being very excited, despite being hit on the head with a brick during child play, to drive to the hospital with our Doc to get stiches when the roads were totally empty and only open to emergencies. A kids paradise. Anybody know what white car Nr 4 is (in front of the guy standing)? Looks familiar but can't recall. Could be a Jensen FF (pre Interceptor), quite rare.

Out this morning, went to the Morrison’s garage, 5 cars on the forecourt and no problem with fuel. Apart from it being E10....

Nah, EV will soon be on the way out. Prep the ground for your hydrogen storage tank ;)

As a former submariner, I’m rather partial to the use of nuclear power. And then, yes, distributing portable energy as hydrogen would be fantastic!
PV, wind, geothermal, and even refuse biomass - all of these have their place. It’s only absurdist when someone claims any one of them could power the world.

And @Catman, you speak of clouds to a man in Seattle! We have started our 9 months of 50 shades of grey outside. The PV still works… just far less so, which is why I have a massive array.

+1 on that. BEVs should be an interim solution but that might be 20 years. I'm not in early and shall wait and see for another 3-5 years. Will still use more solar PV output if I can get it though.

au contraire, my good sir. The Continental boasts are just phrased more elegantly.
Almost replied with
“What, Americans boastful? Why I never…”
Or

I would have thought that the Aus government would have finished watching Vigil on TV before they signed up to Aukus!
