14k miles per year for 13 years is 292k km.Well that I didn't know. Doesn't seem to tally with the numbers I see for cars for sale on FB, but....
<edit>
Hmmm random googling indicates that the average age of a car in the US when scrapped is about 13 years
Average milage driven by a Leftpondian is roughly 14k miles (UK seems to be about 7.4k and has dropped a lot since the pandemic. That feels low to me, I thought it was always abotu 12k but there we are)
So imperfectly 13 years at 14k per year...
186k KM

...rounding error!14k miles per year for 13 years is 292k km.
Conversion from Roman to French error....rounding error!
Not familiar with the bloke so tell me something in that article that isn't true...Ah, the joy of Giles Coren. Never knowingly made a career out of moaning about absolutely everything.
I heard he believes man was never meant to fly because he once had a seat next to the toilet.

I never say never, except that I just did...twice...and so far that's where I am, too. Maybe one day, when there's no other option available. I just keep coming back to the idea that we ought to be exploring every/any possible technologies and not simply reordering the world for plug-ins.Seems to Me that an electric car is only viable if you plan to do short local trips to and from your abode. The end.
This is in line with the 15 minute city concept they’ll force on us.
If you plan to use it like a traditional vehicle as Mr Giles outlined it’s totally ****. Working or not. The range and charger limitations then bring you crashing back to reality as they turn a straight forwards journey into Charger roulette and therefore test the patience of the incumbents as you figure out ways to maximize your enjoyment of the service station you temporarily inhabit whilst u wait your place in the q. Anyone with kids and a wife knows that this will be stressful and likely ruin your sex life.
Thus a hire car is required for holiday travel or alternatively use your traditionally fired car which will get you there without the bother.
Ev, no thanks. Never.
I have personal experience of an iPaceWhat codgewallop. Old Giles should be ashamed of his stupidity, and then blaming everyone else. My fuel tank has a certain range, and before it runs dry, I plan to put more in.
I’m not saying electric is perfect, or hybrid, cos it isn’t. I wonder is stupidity is inherent.
The fundamental issue for me is that Evs are not viable without the necessary recharging infrastructure ( at current range capability). It would take decades to introduce enough chargers to satisfy anywhere near a majority useage.
By then the technology will probably be obsolete.
Sort of. Many would be happy to with an electric car if it suited their purposes, which for many it doesn't. Yours works well because you only do local runs in it. If you drove to the top of Scotland it may be less fit for your purposes. To sum up every EV thread we ever have on this forum:
Those of us that actually have them and use them everyday, like them.
Those that don’t have them, don’t like them.
Both those that do and don’t have them, still like ICE cars as well.
The end.
Why is MUM in capitals? ******* sensationalist retards.I swapped my diesel for an electric car - they're the worst invention in the world — The Sun
A MUM who swapped her diesel car for an electric vehicle has slammed them as the “worst invention in the world”.apple.news
This comes from a peer reviewed source “The Sun”.
And he has a team of servants to come and rescue him with a 300mile long charging cable if he ever runs low!!Sort of.
