"The year ended with extremely positive results that were, in certain instances, unprecedented in Ferrari's history," the company said in a statement on Friday.

Revenues reached 2.251 billion euros, up 17.3 per cent, while a record 7195 cars were sold, up 9.5 per cent on the previous year's figure, it said.

Ferrari, which is owned by the auto giant Fiat, sold 6573 cars in 2010 for revenues of 1.919 billion euros.

"We can only be satisfied with these results," the head of the famous sportscar brand Luca di Montezemolo was quoted as saying.

"They were achieved against an economic backdrop that remains challenging, particularly in Europe," he said.

The company said it achieved record sales in 2011 in America and in the Greater China Area - which has become Ferrari's second largest market - while it also performed well in the Middle East, with a 22 per cent increase in sales.

Demand was also up in Britain, Germany and Switzerland in particular.

"Our international expansion continues and Ferrari today has a network covering 58 nations," he said.

Montezemolo said a new 12-cylinder model would be unveiled at a show in Geneva in March, which he described as "a revolutionary new car that delivers extreme performance and unprecedented power output".

7195 cars for 2011.. thought such cars are for executive people... They're too much! Well........ at this time there are about 700 Lambos, Ferraris, Astons, Bentleys and Porsches in GR for sale...

So that's €300K per car sold. That's one profitable spares department then!

I don't but I recon Maserati are doing very well, bit of a dip last year. Alfa, well they have never made a profit so considering their only offerings are the Mito and Guilieta I would assume its another record breaking loss year for them.

Fiat, I recon they sort off break even, but Lancia sales probably the worst of the bunch.

Ferrari really have done very well......shame about Lancia..........emasculated and bereft of any true Italian DNA this last few years.............and Alfa whose cars over the decades were the standard to aspire too

2011 production figures and results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2011 was a quite good year for Maserati with 6,159 units sold; up from 5,675 units in 2010, and 4,489 units in 2009.

Maserati returned a profit of 40 million EUR (on sales of 600 million EUR) in 2011. Not a huge profit margin, but this means that Maserati has been on the black every year since 2007.
